I don't know much about technology, but if you could pass on to Harley/James that it'd be good if using the "ignore" feature would stop the person you've ignored reading your posts too.
I think this would be really good. It'd be more like a block feature than ignore, but either way, I think it'd be good.

This would have been great in the past when I have had problems with someone. If it is possible, I would definitely like this feature to be added.

I can see problems with this block feature in regards to flaming. For someone might flame someone in their rant thread and it could be that by the information posted only the person being flamed might recognise that. It would also lead to massive paranoia, I'd hate it if someone blocked me and would be really worried that they were talking about me behind their back. Don't get me wrong there have been instances where I would have loved to be able to block a user from reading my posts, I just think that from the other perspective it could be quite harsh. Also I can't think of anyway to prevent users from knowing they've been blocked, for example someone might be able to see someone's last post on their profile, or people might quote that person in a thread.
What might be more useful would be to make a function that means that if someone blocks a user that user can no longer post on any thread started by the person who blocked them. That would keep unhelpful comments out of support threads.
Hmm. Yeah. But at least then they couldn't reply.. unless they made a new account. Eeek.
Except then why wold they because they wouldn't know you'd put them on ignore so if they were to make a new account it would be unlikely to be due to that and often people make new accounts to have 2 at the same time or whatever so that 1 can go on issues that they don't partcularly want people connecting with the other so thy'd act a bit differently 1 would think.
The only suggestion I can think of is really trivial. Change the main colour from blue cos I'm bored of it? It's not crucial, lol - apart from that I've no complaints :P
Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?
The only thing I can think of is the competetive nature...the implication that depression should be prefaced with a 'just'..but this perhaps belongs in the other thread...
Also, I have no idea how it can be 'fixed'.
this could be a controversial thing to do and lots of people may not agree, but i think that banning peoples lists of medications that they are on/have been prescribed should be implemented. this has been discussed in the thread "atmosphere about mental health" in this forum and i figured i could bring the suggestion here?
i find that discussing meds leads to compeditiveness (sp?) and can be detrimental to peoples recovery. for example: someone has been prescribed pill x and posts a thread asking for peoples experiences on the drug. the responses generally follow with unhelpful comments listing the side effects and lots of negative experiences. different drugs have been made for a reason, because the same one doesnt work for everyone thats why it is trial and error. it is up to the user to find out if it works for them. if they read negative posts about it or even positive, this can lead to the OP questioning why it doesnt/does work for them and not others.
lots of the side effects posted about it e.g "my fingers are numb.. has anyone else experienced this with pill x" is an issue to be dicussed with your doctor/psych.
i hope i havnt offended anyone.. it is merely a suggestion. also i hope it makes sense as my rants generally make little sense.

Regarding the question of blocking people etc, one solution I could think of, is if we could label our threads as different levels of private. As in, viewable by "everybody", "buddies only", and "invisible to ignored members". Something like that.
So that we escape the problem of blocked people not being able to read a members news and debate threads, and other general threads, and also so that some threads remain invisible no mater what account the other person is using.
I'm sorry, but I don't really like it. I think it would work fine for a journal, but not threads, unless they were in r&v. I don't 'buddy' anyone because I don't see the need to, and it could end up causing some exclusion, especially of new members. Who is to say that only a 'buddy' can give you support, being a support site the option should be open to everyone (except blocked people, obviously) especially when replies on support threads are already quite low.
yeah i think the blocked thing could work very well, especially if we could make threads only viewable to buddies. i know i'm very paranoid at times and don't post cause all of RYL can see it and i get convinced someone i know has made an account just to watch me. and there are times i could really use support but don't.
i have noticed people getting kind of tense lately and snapping at people. i do report it if it feels against the rules, but sometimes there are times when what people are saying may be true, they just aren't saying it too nicely. and when a brand new member gets like 10 replies and 9 are harsh, that can't be very helpful. i'm not saying we need to sugarcoat the truth, but just maybe put in a bit of positive or a bit of understanding along with any hard things that need to be said, and the hard things can be worded so as not to sound as an attack. i'm not sure what the mods can do about that as it's such a grey area. i've just noticed the overall atmosphere can be quite harsh at times. i do think the mods do a wonderful job though!
as for medication lists, i think it can be helpful to give your experiences. Yes some of my experiences are negative but i will never tell anyone not to take a med. but it can be very important to tell people certain things. examples with me are: be very careful with drinking alcohol with seroquel! I passed out and hit my head doing that and also how geodon and seroquel are very sedating so those taking it need to make sure they don't have to drive, wake up early, etc. after taking it, especially at first. i've fallen asleep at the wheel, not been able to go home and had to spend the night somewhere i absolutely didn't want to, etc... and the thing is, doctors may tell you don't drink with meds, etc. but no one listens so i think it's helpful to hear someone who's taken it say "hey don't drink". telling someone that could seriously save their life. the situation i was in i was lucky to not have turned very badly with seroquel. and as for the sedation thing, doctors do not hardly even talk about that often, because they don't want you to take a med. but again it could save a life me telling them how sedating it can be. again i would NEVER tell someone not to take a med a doctor has prescribed, but i think they have a right to hear how it has worked for other people so they know what they are getting into. of course we need to tell people as well that not every med works the same for everyone, but there are side effects like sedation and bad interactions with alcohol that people need to have stressed to them and that may not get done by a dr, either cause the dr doesn't want to scare them or because people don't trust doctors.
I agree with Claire, in that the buddy thing probably won't work. I can understand wanting posts to be more private- sometimes I get paranoid about the fact that anyone can waltz on here and read any of my support threads (not that there are many but still), but that sounds like it'd over-complicate the matter.
I also agree with frozen, that med experiences can be very helpful. Just so long as people are aware that meds affect everyone differently, and what happened to person x may not happen to person y, its fine. Med lists also don't bother me too much, though I guess I can understand why some people find them a bit iffy, but I'm not sure how banning them would be doing anything apart from cotton-wooling. Maybe they could be discouraged, as really, often they're not necessary.
