I have to write about stuff like this as part of my Health and Social Care coursework, our next unit is about mental health. The last bit is writing up how mental health is portrayed in the media and how it's different to real life. Like someone else has already mentioned, the soaps are here to entertain rather than inform, so it's over dramaticised for the viewing really.
I really have no idea what the point in my comment was :P
I do find it a little triggering sometimes, but I've been told to watch it for this damn coursework. My lecturers clearly aren't very tactful.
I'm gonna tap him like a maple tree. I'm gonna search him for some syrups. I'm gonna be having sex with him.
I think it's done quite well in that it involves everyones' opinion. I do think that it is triggering, and I do think it needs a warning label, but lets face it - how many of us would actually stop watching it because it had a trigger label?!

^ No one here. We all know what the story contains, and yet are still wanting to watch. A trigger warning won't change that.
Choley, do your tutors know about your problems? If not, talking to them could definitely be beneficial for the module. It's likely that it will touch upon some sensitive stuff. This year my tutor told me what was coming up in the class and said that I didn't need to go if I didn't want to, he'd give me any handouts or anything.
Well my weight goes up and down like a bloody yo-yo and although I'm not really self harming anymore, the evidence is still there and everyone knows about it, so yeah they do, and I know if it gets too hard or whatever they'll give me any added support I need. But I don't think I should get any special treatment just for this unit, there are at least two girls I know of in my class who have been treated for eating disorders and another used to self harm also, so I think I just need to go with it and accept it'll probably be really, really hard, but I'll feel proud of myself if I get through it okay. If you see what I'm saying?
That was a bit of a vent, sorry about that. :P

No I understand that. It's really good that your department and university is so supportive of you. And it's good that you want to do it too, something to be proud of at the end.
as triggering as it is i love hollyoaks so refuse to miss a single episode, im really liking the hannah storyline and find it pretty realistic if im honest, a lot of the things she does reminds me of myself so much its uncanny and emma rigby does a really great job at acting it out
I watched it today, I hadn't known she was sick again, I watched it when she was before. I've nothing useful to say about it as I only saw one and a bit episodes, but at least now I know to watch it again.
It's uncomfortable watching Hollyoaks when my mum is there, because I feel like she can see through me. I try to not seem overly interested in Hannah's storyline just so I don't raise suspicion. I guess I'm just being seriously paranoid....Anyway I don't like the way they are depicting Anorexia I actually get angry at Hollyoaks most times because to me it just seems so overdramatised & fake. Sure in some circumstances I can relate to her, but otherwise I can't handle how over the top it seems to me.
My mum keeps saying things like I just wish she would hurry up and die, because she's really getting on my nerves. Everytime she says that my heart sinks, because Hannah is just acting and yet here I am sitting in the same room as her with the real problem & she has no idea so it hurts a lot.
Actually my mum sort of knows that I had and ED a while back, because she found a note that my Dr had written for me as homework which said something like write down the pro's & con's of having and ED. She asked me if I had an ED & she said that's why I spent so long in the bathroom. I admitted that yes I did make myself thorw up, but that was the beginning & the end of that conversation. Never again has she mentioned anything to do with my & ED's. It's as if she has no idea that I had/have an ED. It's really strange actually, but I'm not particularly interested in discussing it with her or her knowin that I am curently engaging in some intense ED behaviours.....At the same time I do think she sort of has an idea that I am ED which is why she always makes sure to say the worst things about Eating Disorders & people who have them. It's annoying, because she is a mental health nurse so of all people you would expect her to not speak in such a manner about them.
I've caught a bit of this on TV and I think the storyline has some good and some bad to it. As other people have mentioned it shows that people are vulnerable to relapse even after they have gotten well, which I think is a good thing to show in the media as it might make people more aware. Generally in other soaps someone has a problem and then bingo, they're totally well and it's never mentioned or addressed again, the problem just disappears and we don't know if they're having treatment or whatever as it just disappears out of the storyline.
I don't think some of it is very realistic though. My experience of hospital hasn't been like that at all and they don't really show much of her treatment - and also, she had a fit while she was with Darren which they didn't really explain.
I don't think channel 4 could use a trigger warning before the show because if they did that for eating disorders they would pretty much have to do it for any kind of mental health issue and possibly physical health/social issues that might upset people, and before you know it you'd have a voice reading out twenty different warnings.
I don't think a trigger warning would make any difference to anything i.e. stop people watching it if they're in a vulnerable state. To be honest I think life in general is triggering - there are triggers everywhere - and either becoming good at avoiding/deflecting them or dealing with them is more the key. There can't be warnings on everything. The people who are going to be affected by this generally know what's going to be in it. The best thing to do with that is to switch it off and do something else like watching another programme, getting out of the house or whatever AS SOON as even a snippet of a scene comes on that's affecting you badly, but we all know how hard that is to do.
I read ahead and it looks like the story won't be going on for much longer so maybe it'll be a bit of a relief to all of us that there won't be the option of watching it anyway!
I find the storyline very triggering even though i never had a propper ed, i just had eatting problems and i watch the storyline and enjoy it coming up as i find it encourages me to not eat, which is really bad i know but i just cant help it! i dont think having a warning label would stop me watching it, it would probably encourage me because i would know it would be coming up!
also when i was in hospital last time when she first had the storyline i was banned from watching it by a member of staff because it was a bad influence on me which annoyed me to no end but was probably for the best.
