Alright, then I would like to apologise for that part of my last post.
However, I still do not like being labelled as 'immature' and 'not been living in the real world for that long' just because I'm 17. You may have gone through a lot of ****, but I have too. Just remember, everyone on this site has.
Age is just a number. There are no given guidelines on age and maturity levels.
I'm gonna tap him like a maple tree. I'm gonna search him for some syrups. I'm gonna be having sex with him.
alternating opinions weren't being listened too anyway
Its fair enough for someone to be triggered by something...no arguament there, its just the drastic requests which could easily have insulted the person in the picture that have got to me.
how about this we keep the thread civil so we dont have to lock it that is NOT what i want to happen i want this to be civil i want everyone option. i can understand though no reason your views to, i can see how this might trigger you but i can also see the other side thats what everyone needs to be able to do understand BOTH sides, understand that and lets keep this thread for being locked like many other threads have.
Sherlock: Oh, please. Killing me. That's so two years ago.
I'm sorry, I can't actually deal with this right now.
I'm sorry if you think I am immature and have not had life experience etc but if that was the case, things wouldn't be so blummin difficult right now.
I have read your comments without being rude or offensive back. I think that displays more maturity.
I just ask you all, please, to stop being so offensive towards me. Just think how you would feel, if an issue that upset you (on top of everything else that others will never know) resulted in so many people slagging you off.
I don't think it is fair and just because you don't agree me, does not give anyone the right to treat me, or others, like this.

Well I thought I'd get my opinion in before the thread gets locked!
I have no problem with pictures of bandages going up, and in all honesty a bandage to me is a sign that the person in trying. If they weren't trying, then the wouldn't clean the wound, and put the bandage on it. Therefore bandages are something positive. Trying is the first step towards recovery, and taking responsibility for self-harming and dealing with it sensibly (like putting on fresh dressings) is part of trying.
Do you not think that agreeing with someone telling me to "get over it" in effect, is not insulting or offensive towards me?

Again, you don't see this as a personal attack?

But surely, if you don't like what you see, don't look?
You must realise that scars or bandages may feature on a members picture thread?
Simple problem, simple answer- don't look at the picture forum.
The particular thread is one where people post random photos of all sorts of things - trips, pets, etc. It is not labelled as triggering and is not meant to be so. So no, I do not expect to see dressings (which I find harder to cope with than bandages and I never brought up bandages, other people did).
You are saying I shouldn't look at the picture thread at all? I find it helpful to see peeps re their haircuts, days, etc, it helps distract me.
Perhaps you should read all of the thread and understand the original issue before being so abrupt.

I don't see what was drastic in asking for a picture (when there were others for that particular post) to be removed or altered in a way to disguise or get rid of the dressings.
Does no-one have any difficulty or compassion in seeing one member be attacked, personally, when they are in an incredibly difficult place right now? I find that sad and hard to understand when many people have suffered at the hands of others.

I think you're taking everything said way too personally, this thread isnt here to attack you, I think the only way to resolve this is to close the thread and start another and not have the original picture thread mentioned. Its getting really annoying to come back to read peoples opinions on the thread topic and to see a pointless endless debate being continued.
I realise that this thread is as a result of my post elsewhere and do not feel that the way people reacted to my feelings was fair and I believe could constitute flaming. I hope that people can abide by the warning of the thread starter, Ninja Duck.
I'm sorry but a picture I saw recently on a photo thread, I thought was distasteful. It showed a member with dressings on. I am currently really battling with my self harm and other far more important issues and feeling incredibly sensitive and going through a difficult time. I have no problem with people showing scars etc but pictures of dressings, I think, are inappropriate.
I know this is a self harm site and I am not asking to be wrapped up in conton wool etc but the image could have been edited in a way to show the member in what was a very nice dress etc with scars but without the dressings. Dressings equate fresh self harm. I am trying to fight against that but would love at the same time the need for the dressings i.e. fresh sh.
Someone has suggested that perhaps a hide box could have been used to note that there were dressings and I like that idea because if there had been a warning, I would not have seen the pictures and been upset in my super fragile state right now.
Seeing a few dressings on an arm of someone on a sh site naturally leads to the assumption of them beign as a result of self harm and to say otherwise is disingenuous.
Surely also, people can see the difference in bracelets and armwarmers as a way of covering things than dressings, which to me = medical = recent self harm = something which I am trying to fight (quite unsuccessfully) right now.
I hope that any responses on this are measured and fair and not targetted at me as I believe previous replies on the picture board have been unnecessarily harsh and that people are not taking the time to consider how it could make others feel.
I'm sorry if I offended you but would you rather see my franken-arm or my plaster-ma-thingyed arm?
I think your being completely ridiculous but yeha. Whatever.

Hi.
I posted the picture, because I personally thought it was a nice picture of my girlfriend, uncharacteristically in a dress.
I actually looked at it and thought "well, this has a scars visable label, so thats s'all good, and the dressing covers the fresh one so thats fine".
But of course, typically, you can't please everyone.
It is my personal oppinion, that a dressing is better than an open wound, it has been said that it advertises fresh self harm, well I'm sorry, but I persoanlly think thats bullshit, what it does, is cover up the fresh self harm, hiding it from view.
If you find dressings hard to cope with, then fair enough, but in the real world people have injuries, self inflicted or otherwise that have dressings on them.
When you saw that picture, you should have thought "Okay, that triggers me, I'll avoid it". Done.
To be honest, if some rule comes up where I have to put Bandage warnings on things I post, I don't think it will be one I stick to. Thats taking things too far.
Sometimes you have to see things you don't like. The real world isn't all rainbows and butterflies.
Oh, and if you want to continue this debate, certain people need to stop belittleing other people, or claiming that because they have worse problems it makes their oppinion more valid, or generally insulting each other.
Firstly.. as far as i am aware, the rules regarding posting pictures will not be changed.
Secondly.. Carrie, i know you feel targeted babe, but i think its just because you have a differing opinion to a lot of people, and so your voice IS Sthe minority.
Thirdly.. at least pictures showing covered and therefore protected and cared for cuts is something that shouldnt neccessarily be promoted, but if seen, might lead others to think.. oh, so thats all i need to keep my cuts clean or whatever. Like, surely better to see them being looked after than hanging out and dirty and stuffs.
Fourthly.. i dont think RYL should ever allow scars visible and not bandages, what does that say? its fine if you used ot have a problem, but you cant have one right now???
Can you imagine how it would make a person feel to know that its fine to display what has happened, but they cant show vague hints that things are still happening in their world?

Two very good points, I think promoting looking after cuts properly is a lot better than promoting leaving them open to infection.
