I started when I was 14, picking at my skin til I bled. Didn't realise what I was doing half the time but I know I had also done it before that when I think back, though nowhere near as bad. I eventually moved on to other things.
Why? Honestly no one reason, I tend to the more nervous I am. I was always shy and never knew how to deal with my emotiond properly.
I started cutting when I was 11, so 8 years ago now. Not properly, but enough to leave a scar, and then things have kind of progressed from there. I've never had any noticable time "free".
I don't know why I started, I guess I'd moved to secondary school and was having to make new friends and the like, but I wish that I never had started.
I just remember being so scared, and not really knowing what I was doing or why, then a few weeks/months later there was a storyline about it on Hollyoaks and I kind of got some ideas from there, and also felt that if it was on TV, it couldn't be that bad. How wrong I was.

About 10 years ago, in my late 20s.
I couldn't bear how I was feeling, as well as I hated myself.
I wasn't aware of self harm, it was just... I 'had to' hit myself or I felt I'd burst, emotionally.
I started a couple of years ago, and it was when I was feeling really low about myself in the world, but I really only do it now when I feel unloved/unliked.
I started about 2 years ago. Was feeling/being f*cking lonely and physical pain seemd the only way to forget about all that mental pain caused by OCD, depression and a lack of a social life and the pressure from school.
I haven't stopped for longer than 1 month and 20 days at any time.

When I was about 8-10 I used to scratch myself with scissors and pins
but this was kind of sub-conciously
I officially started when I was 15, I was curious and did a few scratches
I didn't enjoy it
Then I tried to cut my wrists a few weeks later
The bliss from the SI this time was amazing
So I just started doing it regular from then on
I'm 18 now and trying to stop
Cos the SI just keeps getting worse and worse
and I'm sick of spending whole nights in A+E
but it's damm hard to let go , damm hard.
"In the driest whitest stretch of pains infinate desert, I lost my sanity, and found this rose"
Its kinda started a year ago.
I was trying to make myself put on weight because I was so underweight.
To start with I would just make pressure markers...But over this summer holiday I "official" start...
i slightly started at 12 just causing small nicks when i was shaving and then when i turned 16 i started cutting everyday on my wrist and then my parents found out and then i got help but i ever so often start cutting again then i feel guilty and then i tell someone and they try to help me through it and sometimes i tell someone before i cut now
6 months ago today actually i couldnt handle the things going on anymore and for some reason i thought it was a good idea, i dont know. i wish i hadnt though
I started because my mother was an alcoholic and i had no friends to talk to. Then it got extremely bad when she went to jail and my neighbor molested me. No one was there for me. I think i was about 12, not sure.
With blood stained hands and tear streaked cheeks.
i was 15/16 im now 21 so bin SI for about 5 years, started because i was having family problems mum n dad always breaking up then getting back together i have no idea why i did it i never even knew what i was doing, wish i had never started as 5 years later and im still tying to stop.
About 12/13 years ago, when I was 6; in response to the start of the sexual abuse. No one ever noticed how much I was hurting, so I just dealt with my emotions in the way I knew best.
For those doubts that swirl all around us
For those lives that tear at the seams
We know… we’re not what we’ve seen
For this dance we’ll move with each other
There ain’t no other step than one foot
Right in front of the other
i started after my birth mum died, which was when i was a few years ago. and i have never stoped since, i think it has got worse to be honest. x
“Never lose faith in yourself,
and never lose hope;
remember, even when this world throws its worst and then turns its back,
there is still always hope.”
I started when I was 16 (I'm 21 now). I was fighting a lot with my parents, they were limiting me too much. As I was unable to tell them how I really felt, I had to find a different way of releasing my anger and rage. Then my best friend let me down and it all got so much worse. I never told my parents about my SI - it would destroy them, even though they were (and still are sometimes) destroying me for such a long time. I am now 10 months cut free.
I started when I was around 7/8. I don't really remember. I bit myself, cut myself, and as things progressed, I ended up needing stitches all the time, I began overdosing, bruising my knuckles, pulling out my hair, slapping myself, all sorts. However, I haven't cut in a few weeks now. I do the occasionally slip up, but I am A LOT better now.
I started when I was four, causing myself to bleed but not by cutting, but I'm not gonna say how, because I was an odd one out, I had long dark hair, and got bullied and called a witch, I started cutting when I was ten due to the frahile nature of my parents relationship, and the continual bullying since I was four. I'm 16, nearly 17, so it's ruled my life 12/3 years. The longest I've gone without is 6 weeks.
I don't remember. I started when I was 13 and I now put it down to being raped, but then happened when I was 19. So I don't actually know what I was cutting for for 6 years. I guess it seemed important at the time.
