at the camhs i go to there is a receptionist who asks your name and then who you are seeing at what time. She then tells you to wait in the waiting room, then the person you see comes and gets you and you go into one of the many rooms. you will not look stupid if you go blank i do it all the time at camhs and she has never said anything.

just questions like - when i get there what do i do? will there be a receptionist person who i have to talk to or will it be a computer signy in bit ( i got my mum to explain exactly what happened at the drs but there is noone to explain this one) im scared of doing it all wrong and looking really stupid or something.
also if i cant think/ concentrate (i know i wont be able to) will i look really stupid because i wont be able to answer simple questions or is that normal to them.
i dont know - i hate things im not used to and i havent done anything like this before. im scared its going to go all wrong. im already feeling really panicky about it and i dont even know when it is yet!
they're good questions. when i started at CAMHS, i was most worried about where the loo was, most of the time! there'll be a receptionist at CAMHS, but mine were all really nice (i often wished they were the people seeing me, not the doctors! but the doctors were cool too) at mine there was a buzzy thing on the door that i had to press for them to let me in, i just had to say my name through it. there might not be a buzzy thing at yours. then show the receptionist the letter, she'll show you to the waiting room. the waiting room at mine was pretty cool, with toys (that i sometimes played with!! ) and books and magazines.
you won't look at all stupid if you panic or don't know what to say - remember, these are the types of problems they are exactly trained to help with, so in some ways, it's good if they come out in your meeting with them, then they can help. CAMHS talk to people anywhere between the ages of a few years old to 18, so they're trained to be sensitive too!
it might help if, if there's anything specific you want to say, write it down on a piece of paper beforehand, then you can just read off it. maybe take your iPod or something to keep you relaxed before and after. xxx

okay - thanks!! i feel a little bit more relaxed now - though i really hope they dont have a buzzy thing because i wont know what to say!
this is a very different type of question but - what things would they have to tell my parents? if i said i had thoughts of suicide but no intentions to act on them, would they have to tell them? or is it just if i said i was planning to attempt it?

good question, if they percieve you are a risk to yourself they by law have to say. It depends practitioner to practitioner what they believe 'danger or atrisk is' its best asking who you are ssing the rules on confidentiality. Also your age comes in to it a lot, if youre under 16 you have very few confidentiality rights
hope you get your appointment soon

well, i know for sure now that it wont be happening - im not going and things are going to remain just as bad as they were before. i know i am stupid for not going and i do regret it already so much - things could have got better. i might try again sometime next year if i can build up the courage to do it all again.

Could you not get your mum to phone up for you? Or a friend. I really think it's an opportunity you shouldn't miss. For starters I see from your profile that you are 16, it is much better to get help from CAMHS than adult services as CAMHS tend to be much easier to get referred to and often have shorter waiting lists than adult teams. I think its a mistake not to get the help, after all your anxieties that make it difficult for you to use the phone are the very thing CAMHS would be able to help with.

its too late.. i will need to be re-referred if i want to go. igot someone to call.. but it was too late in the afternoon - i did try to go, but it didnt work. and its my fault - if i had called myself earlier, it would have happened...
i might try again sometime early-ish next year.
