i find when im stuck and cant say what i want to or feel like im going to lie to avoid freaking out etc, that i write out a list of what i want to say. it helps me knowing its in my hands or in my pocket, and if i really get stuck i can give it to them and they can prompt me or just read it and things can go from there.

dont let your fear of the unknown keep you in a place that obviously causes you so much hurt inside.

hey man your situation is one of the closest I've read to mine.
obviously you are close enough to your friend if he/she knew to tell before you were able to, so take advantage of that. I had one of those friends, he didn't tell but point is, allow him/her to become your safe haven. if you get scared at home go to him or call him
people know now even if you did back down. suspicions are up. people are naturally going to question if your parents did something. its natural to deny it because change is a mystery we don't know what is coming next in sequence. but formality we know, we know what happens when the parents are set of by something, we know what is going to happen. eventually you will get to the point where you come forward. in either of two ways: 1. you are pushed farther than you can take. if you are as low as you can go and there is nothing to lose nothing to lose:you'll tell. or if you move on and at some later point in life as you are reflecting back on your life it will all come up again and it will be too much to handle and then why not tell you've moved on. if thats the case go to a free clinic and tell then you will be able to finally be free
I remember exactly when I told. had to skip chapel to tell my p.e. teacher. and at that moment i felt a thousand pounds had been lifted. you hear that expression weight has been lifted and it sounds stupid. but man I swear it felt as if I was unstoppable as if I could run and jump (I can't)
as for being strong: I think most people here will agree (if not- well never mind) being strong is fleeting. we feel strong one moment then we are reminded and we are holding our teddy bears. if you want it badly enough you'll make a change. if you want it badly enough you'll break away
