Religion is a way of life. it helps you lead a 'moral' life. it's not there to tell you everything....

A moral life? I think our morals have changed over time and with regard to Christianity the bible is no longer up to date. ''ungodly, lawless, unnatural and extreme immorality" (Peter 2:6, 8; Jude 7) is how homosexuality is described in the bible. THat's disgusting.

I agree.
I guess I'm a Christian (I don't go to Church, I don't want to be around hypocrites) and I'm gay- maybe I'm going to hell. But surely, being gay is not as bad as being a murderer or a child abuser. So, I'm pretty sure I won't be going to hell. I do find it hard to accept a lot of the stuff in the Bible and apply it to my life knowing stuff like this. It is disgusting.

It's not just the Bible that's homophobic- there's people out there who aren't religious that are homophobes too.

Of course it's not just the bible that's homophobic but to 'live your life' by the bible's teachings as many say they do and to this because the bible is supposedly good and moral just doesn't make sense to me. Not in this day and age anyway.

Totally. It's pretty hard to apply teaching from many moons ago to now.

Seriously, get a grip or something? It was just a joke.

Anyone who took offence to that would just be pathetic in my opinion. People make comments like that all the time, 'women are **** drivers', 'men never listen', 'you're a women you have no spatial awareness', 'you're a man, you can't multitask'. They're in the main, intended in jest, as banter, not something to provoke an argument.

i think your missing the point yeah its a joke, i don't care about it as a joke, its based on ignorance anyway which is approriate for the thread. The point is you can make a sexist joke about men but not women so where exactly is the equality?

Of course i could make a 'sexist' joke about women but surely to put the two side by side would be defeating the object somehow.... This isn't even worthy of debate anymore and seeing as it's deviated entirely from topic i suggest it's left alone so that the rest of the thread can actually be about the Science v Religion debate.

I agree i made the thread to debate science and religion, but i had to come in on that point, its a pet hate of mine and no putting the two side by side does not defeat the point. The point is one form of sexism is allowed another isn't. But i'll take that as a win and we can continue with the real debate.

The ultimate problem with religion as a soloution to the big questions is that the answer never changes, its always Gods will, but that is not a soloution to a problem if no proof for God exists. Yes you can't disprove the existence of God but you can't disprove the existence of the flying spaghetti monster, despite it being a purely fictional creation, there is no proof either way of its existence.

Right now I am very concerned about science. Its being twisted a lot lately to for various purpose from politics to financial gain - people are also using it as a religion while attacking religion. I can hardly keep up with all the contradictions objectively speaking.

Religion is open to scrutiny too. Every religious person I know is happy to discuss they're beliefs. Every person has their own beliefs and their own reasons for having them.
