Swansea's lovely in the summer, when the tide is in, watching the sunset, and the mumbles, which is just down the road, is a nature reserve, one of those places of astounding national beauty... yeppps :)
I was going to say Bath, but people already have. To me, it's not that impressive, but seeing as I have lived near there all my life I guess it's not quite the same.
I'm surprised people haven't mentioned Oxford & London!
Perhaps places like the New Forest, too?
Oh, and I like the Gower in South Wales. x

It's amazing. Bolton Abbey, the dales. Generally it's amazing. And there are some lovely little places to visit. I shall be back when my mum is back from the us of a because she knows more about yorkshire than I do, being born there and all. :)
I'm going to disagree with others. I think Camden is a bit sucky. It's packed full of tourists and 90% of the stuff you can buy is emo sh*t. I personally find brick lane/shoreditch and the shops and markets round there to be better and a lot more fun.
Other than that I'' second (third?) Edinburgh. And also this country has some pretty cool beaches if you look hard enough.

The New Forest, or 'The New Forest National Park' as it's recently been renamed. There are some really tranquil spots where there are few other people and also some great beaches round the edges.
dawlish warren-i love this place there is a walk that is right next to the sea frow dawlish warren to dawlish town. pretty views and there is a train line right near it vertually next to it infact
the Gower is right next to mumbles, its a lovely place to stay:)

Already been said several times but I'd recommend stonehenge and Longleat Safari Park and even Bath.
We stayed in Warminster last year and they were all an easy drive to get to althoughWarminster is very quiet, thats what we wnated and they have nice enough places to eat out and stuff.
York and Leeds - right next to each other and both good fun you also have pretty countryside near by and
Whitby - seaside and not far from York!
Scotland, Wales and Ireland (North and South) lots of places in each of those and both have countryside and city - you can get to all by car (Ireland with the ferry) and then you can spend a few days being nomadic!
Oxford is stunning I love it and am very bias towards it - go there when I am in England and I'll come show you the sites!
Cornwall, Devon, Norfolk all stunning places and by the sea.
London - you need to get Ian to take you down a certain weekend in June/July and voila!!
Buy yourself a road map of England flick it open and go to wherever you land on!!

well i live in leicestershire and birmingham. DONT ever go to leicester, im sure your life is worth more. However places like warwick and stratford are great for old town charm. Leamington Spa is really nice but quite old style. Like the others say alton towers and drayton manor are fab but overrated. Im a summer school manager over the summer and the most popular places are always london (camden, portobello, knightsbridge, brixton - all the oddities there) or places like warwick castle which is amazing. xxxx

What can I add, except to say that much depends upon whether you're a town mouse or a country mouse. There's still something for everyone, either way.
If you incline to the city and shopping (what's with women and shopping - won't they ever actually have enough of whatever it is they're looking for, which I don't understand in the first place!) then of course go to London. The service and the quality are surely as good as you'll find anywhere - and you'll be ripped off just as well as anywhere too ...
But, if you happen to go for the rural scene then, despite the fact that we're overpopulated and overcrowded, there are thousands of rural idylls still to be enjoyed, from Yorkshire to Cornwall, and from Scotland to Wales. You may have to get quite close to them to appreciate them, but the Brit countryside has been nurtured and developed by many generations of farmers and landowners whose care was not necessarily for the fast buck.

Tony - I am in general a city go-er in that i like to go to all the museaum type stuffs etc but i must say...as shocked as you might be what with me being female and all - i'm not to fussed on shops!...with the exception of the one-off type places anyway. I can get all the chains just a stone throw away - why travel for it!
I certinaly shall let you all know where we end up - i will no doubt come back with lots of photies so i shall perhaps make a pic board thread.
