I used to do one big shop every 2-3 weeks and that included loo roll and so on.
I would then top it up as and when with things like bread and milk and I guess I spent 30 quid a week on food.
Food cost vary so much but it also depends on family as well
When we lose twenty pounds... we may be losing the twenty best pounds we have! We may be losing the pounds that contain our genius, our humanity, our love and honesty. ~Woody Allen

I think I must spend a lot on food for a student: like £25 a week, not including going out, but then I don't go out for dinner etc. much. It's prob. cos I eat quite a lot of meat, and always have a full cupboard of stuff, like herbs/cereal/kidney beans/tea. And I like cooking/baking. I think I may try and live off £10 on food a week for a while just cos it could be fun, potentially. I'm reasonably elite with what I munch though.
Best tip evuh: get fruit and veggies from market stalls. There's an amazing one in my city - everything is fresh every day. And it's so cheap, and you get to pick what you want so don't get mankyness. Like, the other day I got two baking potatoes, three bananas, two apples, a load of grapes, five carrots, some sugar snaps and fresh garlic for like, less than £2. BARGAIN!
we speand about £20-30 about every 10 days on food for 2 adults. usually closer to the £20 unless we need to top up the herbs/spices (we cook all meals from scratch)
but when I lived with my mum she could easily spend £130 in a week for 2 adults my brother and me...
I dont spend much on food. I live at home but buy my own. I cant really say how much I spend per week as i tend to have a big stock up every few weeks. The food from the health food shop is quite expensive but then i make economies elsewhere, looking for special offers and buying stuff if aldi and lidl. I could spend less if I had to, i'd cut down on all the meat alternative stuff I buy.
I live with my rents, so thats 3 adults.
We eat well an theres always junk food in.
Weekly supermaket shop comes to about £30 an thats with lots of fresh meat an such.
An then perhaps £3-5 through the week on fresh stuff like bread.
We have a simila problem as you in the sense there are 3 of us and most packs are done for 4. so, the best way to do things is to make multiple meals so that you save on things like gas and electric too. For example, today we had a roast dinner. Any meat left over will make a sandwich for my dad to take to work tomorrow. There was also some left over mash and carrot and turnip. So my mum will cook a cheap bag of mince meat and put the left over carrot an turnip an mash on top tomorrow to make like a shepards pie.
My boyfriend and I spend on average £50-£60 per week on grocery shopping. That gets food for us and the dogs and everything else we need. I'm vegetarian tho so that kinda makes him one too. When he treats himself to steak, that bumps the budget up somewhat. That covers lunches for us both to take to work but doesn't include booze. (We spend an extra £20 a week on booze for home and then more in the pub! Thats why we're always broke!)
If the only true wisdom lies in knowing that you know nothing, then I must be a f***ing genius

thats not a bad idea i do it with meat but never thought of the mash thing
Theres all kinds you can do that with. My mum often runs one dinner into the next, or makes double the amount an freezes it. We actually had the above this week, but there was left over mince as well, so tomorrow thats getting made into chilli or spageti bolegnise (sp) My mum likes to economise and it does make life easier the next day.
If you want to make your shopping cheaper and healthier, the best way to do it is to pla your meals. If you just go into a suppermarket an get whatever you see, you end up with all kinds an come out with nothing to make a full meal with. Plan say 3-4 meals a week and then get stuff that can be done quick like pizza for in between. Then you can always move stuff around depening on how tired you are what you feel like.
Another good idea is to perhaps buy smaller potions an instead add a starter like soup. It will fill you up more an soup can come cheap anyway.
