Thank you for the reply.
I don't talk to anyone in real life properly about my illness. How can I say "um, yes... I have...um.. .schizophrenia".
THE MEDICAL FORMS AT SCHOOL.
"My daughter does/does not take medication. She takes ___________. She suffers from __________"
"She takes Abilify. She suffers from schizophrenia"???? NO
I write "She takes Abilify. She suffers from if you want to know please ask the school nurse, thank you."
It makes me want to cry when I have to fill those damned forms in.

Fair enough. Its just that the school know well of my illness, so I just don't care about that matter.
The reason why I would say is because it can be very disabling at times, even when I'm not having a crisis.

A note; if you are involved in an accident and your insurance company finds out you've lied it could turn out that they will refuse to cover you which could be very expensive for you.

I know how you feel I don't like to admit it, I've had to tell my university because of the horrendous impact it's having on my work and the fact I just physically can't go to lectures and the lecturers don't bother making notes available to students.

I take seroquel and ADs but it does nothing, I think my psych will have to up the dose.

Be careful. I got stripes has a point.
But I understand how you feel. I only write it down when absolutely necessary. I won't write it down when I'm going on a tour operator holiday, for example, but I would write it down on the uni forms, because then they would know what is going on if I stay inside my room for days on end, too petrified to come out or eat.

What dose are you on?
I know how you feel about the "scary stuff" in the psych ward - I've been to secure too because of the scary s*** I did there.
I'm on Abilify, which is now 50% working, but my doctor refuses to raise the dose to anything about 15mg. I think I need more, but it seems that because I don't weigh a lot I can't have a high dose, because otherwise that would equate to an overdose in my body's case (they do it in mg/kg).

Hey.
I have psychosis.Im currently on 20mg abilify for it along with a handfull of other stuff for diff illnesses.
I havnt been on it long enough to notice any effect as of yet though.

I am, like you, also sensitive to stress which makes things worse.
Also loud, unwanted noise (things such as plates clattering or motor bikes) can lead to bad situations.
Im fairly lucky compared to most as i only hear 1 voice and he isnt always bad.Where as most hear a few or lots of different voices which are often unkind.

Hospital hasnt helped much with my psychosis but it has helped with lots of other things.Ive just finished yet another 12 months of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and it wasnt as successful as we'd hoped so im now going to start dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) this Thursday.
Im hoping for the best.

Anyways hope that gives you the insight that you were looking for.
Take care
Megan.

I have Asperger's syndrome as well as schizophrenia, which means that loud noises, disruptions of routine and social situations (especially discos, which I avoid like the plague) can trigger me into a bad situation. If I am in a situation where day after day I am subjected to these things, I can actually relapse.
I am sensitive to stress too; stress makes me relapse.
1 voice which isn't always bad shows that you are doing well.
At my worst I have heard 10+ voices all screaming and yelling at me, which with the Asperger's, made me react really badly. They would often tell me to do things which didn't have good consequences.
How long have you had psychosis for? And, only if you don't mind saying, what other illnesses do you suffer from?
I admire your courage and strength.
Thanks,
SM

Hey Thanks

I have had psychosis for 3 years and i also have BPD and OCD traits.
Yes i suppose just 1 voice is kind of good if you look at it the right way.
10+ voices must so be hard.I admire you also for that.
as i said, like you, loud noises can be bad for me and disrupted routine also.
Thanks again,
Meg

I don't mind saying at all.

I'm only on a low starting dose to see whether it has any effect - this is my first anti-psychotic, and so far is doing absolutely nothing but making me tired pretty much 100% of the time. Can I ask you; does that tiredness start to pass after a while?

You appear to share some of my Asperger's Syndrome traits (disliking loud noises and disrupted routine).
The voices only come sometimes now. They came today and I nearly ODed as a result, but I stopped myself in time. I shouldn't have a bottle of pills in my locker to be honest. I am not allowed scissors in my pencil case for the same reason.
How do you deal with your BPD and OCD?

I suffer from paranoid schizophrenia (I thought a man was following me around and contaminating my water and I thought my cat smelled of my own blood) and am on 400mg a day (200mg twice) of Amisulpride, which helps with my distress and hallucinations and I also get bad delusions but the delusions come and go still. Supprisingly it's not scary when it's happening because it's SO real, it's just like another normal thing in life, another person, y'know. But when I think back I think '**** did I do that for real' then it's scary... and it's scary when I see flash images sometimes but it depends what they are of. It is a hard illness to live with and maybe it'll never completely go away. I don't know, but I am getting help and treatment. My meds are raised when they need to be so that's good.
It's hard at the moment because I'm just getting to know my new psychiatrist, I have only seen him twice, wheras it would be easier if I had just stuck with my CAMHS psychiatrist because I'd been seeing him for about 3 years and he knew/knows me so well now. It sucks growing up... LoL!

I feel exactly like you; my new psychiatrist and I are not really getting along that well; my old CAMHS psychiatrist was wonderful. And I do get flashbacks of s*** I did in hospital, and its not a nice memory.
I was on 700mg (300mg mane 400mg nocte) Amisulpride, but it didn't work for me and I relapsed. I'm on 15mg Abilify now, which is working less and f***ing less every week.

I think it is hard when you've had an illness for so long... especially an illness such as schizophrenia or psychosis and you have to change specialists right when you know them and are used to them. It's hard for both of you because I don't know where to start basically. I can't exactly recall every hallucination and every delusion I've had and tell him within one or two hour sessions. And then the consultant has to learn all about you... get to know you, what symptoms you have/had and the list goes on.

That's why I was upset about leaving my CAMHS psychiatrist because... well... he knw me so well and I was comfortable with him. Now I have to get to know someone totally different and I don't know what they're going to be like. It's hard.

I know... I told my doc I have problms with my mood and sleeping and flash images and that the meds are helping with the OCD, but not the depression. He's doing nothing, he just wants to keep an eye on them. I guess I'm gonna stress to him next time that I am fed up and pretty low. I mean the schizophrenia right now is under controll... I go through phases where I get eppisodes and that's when th meds need to be raised. I'm just depressed right now and it's not helping.

Depression is difficult. Very, very difficult. I'm sorry that you're going through that.
My doctor refuses to believe I hear voices and that I see things. I don't know what is real or not any more. I honestly don't know. I don't know how long I can keep going... not knowing what's next around the corner. I have lost my motivation and I cannot feel pleasure in anything. I can't even be bothered to take my meds tonight. What difference will it make.

Not mening to sound unhelpful or anything but (forgive me) that doesn't sound at all helpful of your doctor. Why would someone lie about such a thing. What people don't realised and even the "professionals", is that of how real it is... it's just like another every day person talking to you... standing there chattering away. But it's not normal because of the things they're saying. Bad and upsetting things most of the time. I think you get the understanding ones who are bamazing, and then the ones that even though they are qualified to diagnose... they don't know what it's really like untill they've lived it out themselves... which is most likely never going to happen so it's not nice at all when yopu've got a specialist like that.
