I've just read that there is an English translation of a German mystery story/ thriller which deals about SI in a way.
In German it is called Der Erdbeerpflücker and the English translation is called The Strawberry Picker and it is written by Monika Feth.
She is quite famous for writing books for kids, teens and young adults and this book is the first one of a psychological thriller series about a young woman who solves crimes.

A book I can highly recommend is Ich, mein größter Feind by Timm Flemming. In English it would be called Me, my biggest enemy but I am afraid that there isn't any English translation (yet?) of it.
Timm suffers from Borderline personality disorder and it is his memoir; he has been through so much sh*t.

I found Bloodletting really boring and struggled to finish it.

On the other hand, I thought that 'Cut' was excellent!!

Well, this thread came into my mind and I'd like to write something about the books I've mentioned now.

Be careful: heavy SI triggers!

Well, I am still reading it but I cannot recommend it. The story sounds interesting but the writing style is going on my nerves.
The main character "speaks" to the reader and because he cannot trust anybody, his tone is rude and there are often phrases like "Well, you don't understand me anyway, so stop reading." (in a much meaner way).
Moreover, the main character has very strange thoughts and the niveau of the language is very high but with many swear words.
What really goes on my nerves is the mentioning of god all the time.
Be very careful: heavy SI, s. abuse and r... triggers!!!
Moreover, it is so gross because of the phantasies of the main character and sometimes it makes me feel sick.

I have two copies of 'A Head Full Of Blue' by Nick Johnstone (one immaculate, one annotated to hell). That book has saved my life more times than i care to remember.

Not only does it deal with Self Injury in places, but also details his experiences of depression and the ongoing battle with different medications. It also deals with his alcoholism. There are many references to Sylvia Plath, and how her writing helped him.

The book is written in an easy too read diary type form, and it is the most brutal and emotional book i have ever red. The realism just smacks you in the face. Deffinitly give it a read guys.

I've read Secret Scars by Abigail Robson. It's by a Christian but it is really good. Could really relate to the stuff in it.

I think the only one I've read that hasn't been mentioned is The Sky is Falling by Leslie Lee Sanders, but it's an absolutely horrible book that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Among other things, the author can't write at all. As in, she has no grasp of even the most basic English grammar (despite being a native English speaker). The book is full of sentences like "Cassidy seen that the cover of the letter read: 'To Anna, from J.'" (I swear that's a direct quote, and it's not an isolated mistake). But even if you're able to overlook the almost illiterate writing, the story and characters are crap. And the book finishes with a short "information" section that's pure fiction (and includes a full two pages without a single complete sentence).

My favorites are Cut, Red Tears, and The Luckiest Girl in the World. I also really liked Sharp Objects, but not so much for what it said about SI (not that I disliked how it handled it, it was such unusual circumstances that the stuff about SI couldn't really generalize much or anything). I'm pretty sure those have all been mentioned though, and I can't think of any others that haven't already been said. I don't read much non-fiction, and I usually have a hard time even with memoirs and such because they're usually written for adults rather than kids/teens and because of my dyslexia, that ends up being challenging enough that it has to be a really unusually good book for me to enjoy it enough to read more than a page or two.

I'm reading it at the moment, i find it realli easy to read and it is quite good, well so far, i'm at p60 at the mo. I find it quite triggering tho, and tbh i've found stuff i wouldnt have thought of so i wouldnt read it if your not safe. Mentions God quite a lot, which is fine for me but i know might put others off.

Take care

Paris Immortal deals with it, though breifly

This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight

And in the spring I shed my skin
And it blows away with the changing wind
The waters turn from blue to red
As towards the sky I offer it

Zelah Green - the narrator's friend has a problem with SI - wasn't realistic, but I liked it.
