hon you're never alone, and you're never too old to hurt.
I'm 24, about to turn 25 and this has been in my life 8 years. The thing that changes is your awareness of what you're doing and it's implications, but it is most definitely not something only teens use to express pain.
Everybody hurts, and everybody copes in different ways. What I do know, is that you're never alone, because we won't let that happen.

I turned 40 this year and just started self-harming a few months ago. Sometimes I feel too old to be doing this because I think I should know better. Well, my head knows better but right now harming is my coping mechanism. I do have to say I don't notice the age difference around RYL so much because we all struggle with a lot of the same things.

why would you help clean me up if i'm the mess you never made?

<-----------25. actually i watched cut up kids last night and then came on to the general areas of RYL and it all left me feeling more frustrated at myself, that im being teenage and i should have 'grown out' of SI by now. but thank god for this thread and vets in general! so no, your not alone.

hi my names lucie, but im better known as betsie. im 34 and have joined ryl today. i started si when i was about 9 and still often self harm. the people i have met here today have been very helpful in pointing me in the right direction for the over 18's. so to all of them i say thanks. I gave up si for about 18 months but sadly i have started again. whilst i am ashamed of what i do i feel that it should be publicised more, its not just children and teenagers that self harm.
To those of you who dont si then im pleased for you, but for me si isnt just about cutting.

Hi Lucie. Welcome to you.
SI isn't just about cutting. It is about the events and emotions that lead to wanting to SI.
I started when I was 14, now I'm 41.
Amaryllis is planning a crocheted and knitted blanket with 6 inch squares that will be assembled with orange crochet and hopefully that will get the message of SI out there better. She's using orange because that is the color of SI.
Welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts.

My husband is my best friend.
In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.

Im will never say I am recovered because I still have urges but have managed to stay Self Harm Free for 18 months. Mainly because of my Children are getting older and noticing more and more.
Please feel free To stay here at Vets, they are a lovely bunch of people. That they except you, for you.

ah, the press. theres alot of misconceptions and misrepresentations about who hurts themselves and who doesn't. you and i and most of the people on the vets boards are living proof that this one is wrong.

I'm 26...I REALLY started kind of late, maybe 21?? but, I remember as a kid doing little things that I believe, ultimately led to using things to cause injury...
My mom found out and actually asked me "aren't you a little old for this?"
