Definitely sound different. ‘Passed’ almost sounds like it has a soft ‘r’ in it.
Also, I keep voting for lesbians. When are they going to show up?? I need more lesbians in my life!!!! IS THIS FALSE ADVERTISING????

I think it might be something to do with sounded and unsounded letters. Like how b and v have the same tongue movement but one is voiced and one is unvoiced. But I don't really understand elocution just going off something an actor friend and I were chatting about a while back.
I imagine they sound the same if the person isn't good at elocution but a master could make them sound different. I am not a master for instance I pronounce I pronounce think as fink. A fact I think got me rmildly ridiculed at one of my first ryl meets (in a friendly banter kind of way).
I voted for confused because they need skill to sound different

Also yes they definitely sound different! I feel like 'passed' has a longer 'a' sound or something!
Also while we're talking about words that sound different. Please reassure me that 'poor', 'paw' and 'pour' sound different. Because they are clearly wildly different words but my husband tells me they are the same and mocks my pronunciation mercilessly
