But then the "tests" are the diagnostic criteria that you have to fill to meet the threshold criteria for having a condition.

And yes, you might be fine now, but you're also on medication now, so it could be th medication that's making you 'fine'. NHS MH beds are not easily got, unless you were really very ill you wouldn't have been given one.

Ducky. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with all this, I really am. You don't deserve it at all, and it isn't fair.

I really hope that you don't decide to stop your medication without talking to your team about it. I can understand that it seems like it's the medication, rather than a mental health condition, that's making you unhappy right now. And you're right - you do manage incredibly well with work, your flat, everything else that you do. But - and I really hope I don't sound horrible saying this! - that hasn't always been the case, and there have been times when you haven't been able to cope with all those things and have needed some extra help. Looking back, do you think there's any correlation between those times, and times you haven't been taking medication?

That said, I really understand your reluctance to continue taking medications that are causing side effects that interfere with your life. I can relate to that and it does seem incredibly unfair to effectively be told what you're "supposed to" do. BUT hopefully there are other options and it won't be a case of choosing between these side effects or being unwell. I do think it's important that you ask for a medication review and make it clear how much this is affecting you, so you and your team can work out the best way to move forward.

Thinking of you and sending love x

Clopixol is available as a depot. Would it be worth asking if you can go on it? I am on it and I used to get fed up of meds. I was previously on quetiapine and I got loads of side effects from it and with clopixol depot I get no side effects from it apart from a lump in the area where my cpn has injected me with a needle.

I'm so sorry things are difficult lovely Ducky. I can hear how frustrated you are. *cuddles*

Hannah has said it better than I ever could, but I think I would just advise caution. I know you are sensible and you posting to vent is great as it will hopefully avoid you making any rash decisions about medication. Can you arrange a med review ASAP? Can the dose of the stuff that should help with the jaw movements be increased?

Thinking of you x

But Wellingtons, it doesn't work like that with physical health. They don't just attribute a diagnosis to you based on unverifiable information. Symptoms of anaemia include tiredness, shortness of breath and being pale, but they're not going to diagnose you with it unless they do a checkable, accurate test to verify that's what it is. It could just as easily be something with similar symptoms, and until they do a blood test that cannot be disputed, they don't stick the label on you.

It's not schizoaffective. Genuinely. This shitty diagnosis has followed me round for YEARS and always make people think I'm mental. I'm not. The inpatient psychiatrist diagnosed me with PTSD in addition to the schizoaffective, and based that diagnosis on being traumatised by my Nan's death. I was grieving, but I wasn't traumatised. No history of abuse, no flashbacks, nothing. My CPN said that that psychiatrist is on longterm sick leave, and has been since a week after I left the ward. He said that lots of people that were inpatient at a similar time to me had been given "weird and wonderful diagnoses" and that he thought the PTSD was that, so it's been removed from rio with my outpatient psych's approval. I know the schizoaffective seems to have been in the heads of several inpatient and outpatient psychiatrists, but if the PTSD diagnosis is wrong (it is), the who's to say that the schizoaffective diagnosis isn't wrong too? Who knows?

I am so, so fed up of thick fecking medication. I've had to buy more bonjela today. I might as well be eating it. I've taking oral painkillers now because it hurts, and I hate that. I take the medication and all it does is give me a sore mouth and make me question my judgement. At least before I started taking them I knew what was what. Now I don't have a ****ing clue and it's doing my head in. Yes their quieter/nicer, but that's coincidence, surely? There's just nothing to warn me of now. They talk about the weather and what I'm wearing, but Gran's dead and there are no more traps as of yet, so they don't need to warn me off. COINCIDENCE. I do believe in them. Drugs. It's ridiculous. My mouth hurts so much.

If I could stop taking them with no repercussions, I would. Unfortunately people always seem to find out one way or another and I get in no end of trouble. You know that once they dragged me screaming out of my house, in front of my parents, and I hadn't done anything wrong? I was not taking my medication, but I don't know how they found out. I didn't do anything. I was spending a lot of time in my room and I was very sad, but that wasn't any of their business. That got me sent to a high dependency unit. There had been no self-harm and no suicide stuff. "Self-neglect" or some such **** that they made up. Why that justified a HDU I'll never know. I spent Christmas in that place with no leave. For staying in my bedroom. What a croc of ****. Not OK.

What do I do? Ask for a medication review, I guess. I don't want it though. I've avoided the doctor for ages because my CPN just liaised with him on my behalf. They all give side effects. Though I think I preferred lactation - at least that was not painful.

To top it all off, I've just had the occupational health from through from a new job I have, and it asks stuff about current treatment and any history of mental illness. Well, no. I have to put the diagnosis and treatment down, because if they write to my GP then I'm screwed. Why should a wrong diagnosis follow me round though? I get sad sometimes. So does everyone. I get scared sometimes. So does everyone. I am not some unique little snowflake. I'm just a bog standard human like everyone else in this world and I don't like that I'm made to feel different because a few doctors have stuck a label on me that can't be verified. At all.

Another bit on the occupational health form: "Have you ever had to give up a job for health reasons?" Urgh. No. I gave up because I'm lazy. Or because I've been locked up and couldn't face going back with them knowing. I've held down my current job for two years. I hate this. I am LAZY. Lazy.

I work 16 hours a week. That's not exactly a busy schedule. I've done exactly the same for the past two years and have made no progress with my hours. I'm a healthy 28 year old female, who has half a brain and the ability to set an alarm clock in the morning. It's definitely lazy to slack off for two years and rely on benefits for no other reason than sometimes I like to stay in my bedroom for a while. I'm sure everyone would stay in their bedrooms if they got the chance. It's just that I have the gaul to do it. It's ridiculous and unfair. I give genuine benefit claimants a bad name. What a ridiculous state of affairs.

Thank you though, J. I'm sorry if that sounds snappy. I am just very fed up. I did not sleep a wink last night, which is making me particularly grumpy.

Sorry you're so fed up. It is really hard.
I'm in a similar situation. I'm unsure have schizoaffective disorder and don't like the side effects from my meds but know ill get trouble if I stop them.
I also recently had to fill out an occy health form and had to put my diagnosis down. It sucks.

I think you should ask for a med review. At least it will give you a chance to talk about how you feel.

Sending hugs xxx

Hi. I have schizophrenia and physical health problems for which I take more than 20 tablets a day, and I'm also on a depot.
I get sick of it too. I empathise with you hun. Sending positive energy to you xxx
