Mostly I am just really paranoid about people seeing my arms, so I usually just do my legs. I never wear shorts, just jeans. And the times that I have cut my arms, I am constantly worrying about people seeing.

I always flirted with the idea of pushing the blade in a bit farther and slitting my wrists "for real"
Maybe it's a blood thing.... I know I was never satisfied unless I saw lots of blood...
I always cut on my left wrist or left upper arm [like hgh enough to be hidden by a t-shirt]
But, after my mom found out I tried my ribs, stomach, ankles, thighs, calves, and breasts
I always felt sick and evil for cutting anywhere but my left wrist/arm..
IDK why though...
It would have been so much easier if I could have just cut somewhere else... I probably wouldn't have quit...
So maybe it's a good thing?
arms feel different to me than anywhere else. maybe because theyre more sensitive... i dunno. but ive really tried not to do it on my arms because its much harder to hide. it sometimes even keeps me from cutting because i know i wont get that same feeling because i dont want to do it on my arms. hmm.
I very very rarely cut on my arms anymore, because it's hard to hide.
But when I did it was because:
1) My skin is thinner on my arms, and therefore I feel it more.
2) When I cut, it's very impulsive, and I can get to my arms faster.
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is stamp you out
I like my cuts to be somewhere I can see with ease. So I can look at them, I know that sounds stupid.
I get that.
Seeing them makes me feel reassured, 'They're here, they're real', touching them makes me feel relaxed (just after they've started to heal - I'm not the type that picks), kinda reliving the release, the sense of control...
That was a little more personal than I intended O_o;...
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
And in the spring I shed my skin
And it blows away with the changing wind
The waters turn from blue to red
As towards the sky I offer it
I cut on my arm or my finger because it's convenient. I need to see the blood though and my cuts are usually shallow there. I can cut deeper on my thigh and that is more satisfying.

Ive always cut my arms and never had any problems hiding it. No ones asked me questions about it so I guess thats why I've never really worried about doing it there. I dont really know why I started there but I formed a very strong bond with cutting that particular part of me. At first it was just the forearms, but then it became the whole arm.
On saying that I have now moved onto my thighs, stomach, breasts...basically any where and everywhere I can reach.
Also, I've read a couple of things on reasons why people cut where they do. I've heard that a lot of girls/women cut on their breasts/hips/thighs for reasons associated with being uncomfortable with sexuality (feeling like femininity = weakness, having been sexually abused). And as for the arms... there's some speculation about arms being symbolic of being held, security, representing parents who are supposed to hold and take care of you... stuff like that.
Food for thought.
When I was a teenager I hurt myself (but not cut myself) at my hands and my arms and sometimes my at my legs, too.
Then, there were years without SI and when I started again last year (cutting this time), I cut only my arms (outer sides and sides of them) because they are easier to reach and - sorry for writing this - but I thought that "this is where people cut themselves". (Yeah, I even did not think about cutting anywhere else . )
Moreover, you can hide it but sooner or later, people will find out (because of long sleeves and armwarmers even when it is really hot) and I guess that in a way, I WANT people to know what I do. (I am very open about my SIing.)

that's an interesting question i never really thought about. i cut everywhere on both of my arms probably because of the impusle. it's easy to get to. and it's easy to see. i agree with what others said about seeing and touching them and it being reasurring. i've also been cutting on my thighs and upper thighs and ankles and legs. those are really hard to hide when i am swimming. but i just don't think about that when i do it. the places i cut are typically because of impulse. it's all in the heat of the moment. but i've always prefered anywhere on my left arm.

And this may sound wierd but cutting my arm feels "better" than other places ... don't know why though o_o
I find that too.
If i ever want to cut, it's never the same cutting anywhere else like it is on my arms, i find it to be more of a release there.
When i first cut, i wasn't even thinking about people noticing or anything it was i just need something to stop the things going on in my head, the glass was there and so was my arm and that was that. I was cutting on my arm for quite a while before it become such a pain having to hide it that i started to cut in other places.
It's so easy to get lost in constantly having to present
whatever face you believe a person wants to see rather than your own
Well for me the arms, especially the inner part, was more sensible and tender so it felt more and was also easier to treat after words and I could stare at it whenever I wanted. That's why I did it there.

Seeing the scars, cuts, bruises, burns on my arms feels better than what I saw on my legs. Even though I am almost one month free, I still like to look at my scars, especially in school when I'm not feeling too well, and I'm glad they're on my arms so I can see them whenever.

Cutting different parts of your body definitely gives different feelings, sensations, and results. (By results, I mean amount of blood, type of wound, healing time, etc).
I have only cut my arms a few rare times a long time ago --- but the feeling is certainly a lot 'better' (for me, personally) than elsewhere on my body. The one reason I have never properly cut my arms, is because I don't want people to see. Similarly, I cut on my stomach, sides and legs mostly all of which are completely different, IMO.
Also, arms would be easier to care for wounds with. You can't bandage the tops of your legs, or your stomach also.
Another thing to consider is, what might seem harder to cover, isn't essentially so. When I first self harmed I never considered scarring - only immediate wounds (as apposed to now, when I am aware the scar's'll be around for ever/a few years minimum so I take more care of location) and so I 'tested blades' out on my wrist purely because it was easily covered via my wristbands which suited my style and didn't look suspicious (at the time). In fact it was one of the easiest places to hide! Now the 'scars' are barley there, but they're also always exposed because I don't wear wrist bands anymore and if I did they'd look silly because of my different way of dressing.
I also cut parts of my body because of how I associate them with myself, for instance (dispite the fact my thighs are the fattest/largest/whateverest part of me) I cut my stomach when I feel fat or resent my body because I associate it with eating, and I'll cut my thighs to associate it with my relationships with people and thus being womanly. I guess that ties in with what was said about femininity earlier.
So yes, my main point is there is various reasons for cutting some parts of your body over others, and various reasons why I've cut certain parts of my body... even though I've never cut my arms.
On reflection - sometimes I wish I'd cut my arms not my legs, because it seems to everyone perfectly feasible to show scars on your arms because you can't wear long selves all year around, however it would seem (IMO) odd to show scars on your legs because it IS perfectly feasible to wear trousers or tights all year round - and it doesn't look weird, so to show scars on your legs makes it more of a choice to WANT to show them, instead of it being a necessity. So I'm limited in wardrobe but I feel like if the scars were on my arm, I'd just be like "who gives a ****" but as they're on my legs I'm hugely embarrassed.
Maybe it's just me.

well when i was 14 i was abotu to take a rozor to my wrists because i wanted to die and so on, but i decided id need to know how hard id have to press down so i done a few practice rounds on my arm, After that it just became the obvious place. i do it in other places in other ways, ive done it anywhere you can name, inside and outside my body but my arms just feel better..
