I have IBS so if i had 5 a day i would be ill. I keep it to one or two a day, occasionally more, sometimes less. Some fruits I can't really eat at all. I don't like having to do that, i did like eating healthy and i miss it. Not as much as i miss coffee...

^Could you have apple juice each day to bump up your intake?

I have IBS so I know what certain foods can do though I don't have too much trouble with 5 a day, I know plenty of people who do.

I usually eat 3 veg with my evening meal, so added to the fact I have apple juice on cereal, I just need to get a snack of fruit in somewhere. But this needs to be made more regular :P

I think of nuts and seeds along with fregtables. Flax seeds are cheap in bulk (grind them up with a coffee grinder). A 500 capsule bottle of cinnamon is also cheap and adds flavor. The thing is to eat raw stuff. Cooking creates changes in food that the body doesn't always handle well. Anything cooked is deader than dead. I want to tear up when I see veggies boiled into oblivion

I have apple juice occasionally, its just affording it. Currently i am just going for sugar free squash with vitamin C. Better than a coke. Although i have just opened a can of diet coke... No sugar though. Thats what i am trying to cut out.

I made it though I did have to eat a huge portion of veg at supper!!

Mind you I had the most yummy mango from waitrose for lunch.

For those who haven't made it what made it hard?

This is a really good idea! :) I made it today with the veggies, not so much the fruits though... But the day isn't over yet :)

5 portions for me today, woop!

A word of caution about smoothies and fruit juices- they are high in sugar (fructose) as much as 6tsps per portion which can be more than fizzy drinks. I've seen a few programmes where it's recommended you only have 1 or 2 fruit drinks per week.

I did... okay for me today. Didn't reach five though. A banana, an apple, a pear and a small amount of red pepper, onion and iceberg lettuce in fajitas.

Determined to make it tomorrow though. As above fruitwise with broccoli and sprouts with fishcakes and potatoes for tea.

Might see if i have any dried fruit in the cupboard to improve on today. Four portions of fruit isn't great for your teeth i guess, but a one off won't matter and it'll be better than the giant chocolate chip cookies i have on my kitchen surface!

Edit: have had four very yummy dried apricots.

I agree entirely on not nuking vegetables. It was a bug bear of mine when i lived in residential. Broccoli is meant to be green, cauliflower white. Not both an odd shade of grey.

Hey me too but mostly to be supportive of a female friend who wants to join the gym, I can work out in a 6 foot by 3 foot box if I need too. :D

I know it's healthy but somedays I find it hard to get my five serves. Juices and fruit mixes does sound like something I might find easier to do though.

For those in the UK (or perhaps just England, I'm not sure) i have seen adverts on tv for the Change 4 Life website - they said something about being able to get vouchers for healthier eating. I don't know anything about it, but if money is an issue then it might be worth checking out.

If you are into having vegetables with your dinner then buy a steamer! Veg tastes SO much better steamed and not boiled.

Steamed vegetables are definitely better, i agree.

I think i did it today. A ball of beetroot and a medium tomato with a tiny bit of cucumber with lunch, an apple, a pear, three dried apricots and some broccoli and sprouts with dinner... Oh and a giant cookie to reward myself :s
