I recently had to register with a new gp and go see them for the first time last week. I have to admit I found it really awkward. I needed to see them to get all my meds prescribed - I'm not on any psych drugs but I'm on a load of meds for health issues that have arisen as a result of my anorexia. My gp took one look at the long list and did a bit of a double take, as it's very unusual for someone as young as me to be on so many meds. I hadn't really planned on telling her everything, and I ended having to, and it didn't go very well.
So my advice would be to book a double appointment, so you don't feel rushed for time and can take your time explaining things. Maybe write down a few pointers, so that if you get flustered you have these to refer to, or even show the gp. I saw a young female gp, which helped me - so like someone said asking to see a gp who is good with mental health problems also consider if you'd rather see a male or female, young or older etc. I also doubt they'd go changing any of your meds straightaway. Though they might want to ring your old gp to check that they are the right meds for you (it's not that they don't believe you, it's just to protect themselves) so make sure you book an appointment to get this sorted in plenty of time before you run out so that you don't create yourself any stress.
Good luck. And I hope the move went ok today xx
