Jenna, I think colours are more forgiving. When it's black and grey, once the dark shades are in there's nothing much you can do to rectify mistakes and they're blindingly obvious. When you're blending red into orange or whatever, there's much more scope for freedom and it's a lot less obvious if something isn't right. I'm looking forward to the challenge though :D

My girlfriend's mum asked me if I'd ever thought about tattooing when she saw my other art work and Mehndi work & I told her that it was all I ever wanted to do since I was 13 but didn't know if I'd be well enough to do it. She surprised me with a starter kit about 7 weeks ago and that was it, really. It's all been a bit of a whirlwind, amazing though.
I just want to tattoo, all the time. It's all I can think about at the moment, haha.

Is a start kit all you need? not training or certificates or anything? (I dont mean to sound anything other than curious in that statement, just to clarify)

Legally, you're allowed to tattoo as many people as you like, you only need a license and the such when you start to charge :) I'm getting myself licensed and insured in the new year :D
When it comes to the design, I triple check everything. I spell check and get whoever I'm inking to check it too. When it comes down to actually tattooing, I guess you just have to take your time and go for it, the more you fanny about when you're making a line the more likely you're going to wobble and miss the line.
I got my starter kit and it came with two machines, a small range of needles and tips, 6 inks and all the bits and bobs. I've bought more supplies and gloves/green soap/aftercare stuff since.
I'd fully encourage anyone who's ever wanted to tattoo to have a go. It's a beautiful feeling :)

I'm training myself with the guidance of my mother in law, who has a lot of tattoos herself and is very patient and a willing canvas. I'd love to get an apprenticeship somewhere but I'm just not physically well enough to be able to do one, my health is too unpredictable. That breaks my heart a little, but this way I'm learning at my own pace and developing my own style and techniques and it seems to be going okay :)

Your determination and passion is awesome. At the end of the day that's the most important thing when it comes to doing something you love :) Keep going for it! xx
Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world awaits in darkness for the light that is you.

No problem :)
Yeah, things only start getting legally complicated when you start charging for the tattooing.

More added to a full thigh piece I'm working on ^_^
Totally in love with the greens I used today :]
I feel so at home and so (ironically, considering the noises ;P) peaceful when I'm tattooing. I'm so excited about getting licensed and building up my portfolio ^_^

This makes me all the kinds of happy reading this! Firstly, because your work is sooo amazing. And that you're relatively new to this is amazing that your work is just SO good, so congratulations!
But also it gives me happy feels because I can see how happy you are doing this, and it's coming through what you write here so I can only imagine how happy you are in real life. It sounds like a great motivation, and I believe one day you'll be well enough to be out having an apprenticeship and they will be so lucky to have you!
Aimee, thanks so much, that was the sweetest thing to read <3
I am really, really happy when I tattoo, and I'm pretty proud of myself for having the guts to just go for it and I think I'm doing okay considering I've only been tattooing for 5-6 weeks :) I feel really happy when I get tattooed and I love the result, so being able to give that to people is amazing.
