I'm dreading the independent driving part, bah I'm dreading all of it! Lol.
If I remember your test is on Halloween? I'm sure you'll be fine as you've had previous road experience. What got me through my test is to literally keep asking myself road related questions, that way my focus is on driving and off of the examiner!
The examiner I had this time was really nice, really friendly. All the others have been older, quite intimidating men, and whilst this guy wasn't young, he was very smiley and made me feel as comfortable as could be. I did get a little nervous at the beginning (hence two minor faults) and I thought I had failed, and what people tend to do is, if they think they've failed early on in the test, they don't bother trying and end up failing for silly things that happened later on in the test. NEVER do that, if you think you've failed, use the rest of the test to 'redeem' yourself and demonstrate you're a good driver. Chances are you haven't failed, and if you do this will help you further, in case the same examiner takes you for another test. So ten mins in, thinking I failed already, I still didn't give up, as soon as I started acting like I wasn't being watched, I was fine.
I was last out of the test centre so I was given bay park. I HATE bay park, it's my least confident monoeuvre. Then for the independent driving I was given a set of instructions whilst still in the bay "Go right, right again, then left, then follow signs to city centre". For the ID, they almost always give you both road signs to follow, and a set of directions in one go. Might not be at the same time, but you'll do both at some point in the test. Some examiners give you a map (not to scale) if the directions involve roundabouts.
I also got emergency brake on a narrow road filled with parked cars, and I hadn't done an emergency brake since I was 18!
All good though, I cried when I found out I had passed! I hope this gives you a better idea of the test. Lots of luck!!!!
