Card cannot be used at merchants outside of the United States, including the Internet and mail order/telephone order merchants outside of the United States.

Don't click to proceed or confirm the payment details / order.
If you want to cancel it there'll probably be something click saying cancel or delete or whatever.
To be honest, if it's not going to work then you don't need to worry about canceling anything as it won't have gone through in the first place.

You probably won't need to close the window, the website will probably recognise that the card won't work and tell you, therefore the order won't go through as you haven't paid. Then you'll have to pay with money or buy the thing from another place.

Are you suggesting they'd bill you for something unfairly?
Because if you don't confirm the payment, you haven't officially made a purchase. And you clearly can't make a payment with a card that doesn't work in the first place.

The website doesn't know the address you type in until the payment is confirmed and the order gets reported to a person who manages the orders for the website. There is nobody from the website reading your computer screen as you type in your details. Therefore, they don't know your address, name etc until the payment in confirmed and your order has been accepted. There is no way they will send you a bill if you card doesn't work. As said before, the website will simply reject the card, the purchase will not be confirmed, and you will have to pay another way.
Why don't you just try it and stop using gift cards if they cause you such a problem. Get a credit card.
