I hope everyone in the areas affected are safe. It's terrifying where I live at the moment, police came round earlier today telling all the shops to shut and board up their windows and told everyone to go home and not leave the house. My local pub, a clothes shop and a poundshop have been burned down and the crowds swarmed the police just a few minutes from where I live, I still can't believe what's happening.
Please stay safe everyone.

Starting to get scared now. We've been warned about the area that is RIGHT behind our house & the riot vans are already out in force. We know where we're going if we have to evacuate but still.
I went riding in Enfield today and could see the smoke from the warehouse fire...a gang tried to loot our local Tesco as well...we aren't anywhere near any towns though so I can't imagine how scary it must be to be near the riots...I hope everyone can stay safe xxx

I live near Birmingham but nearer the Black-country into which its spreading and it's truly depressing. I am absolutely disgusted at the state of this country and getting increasingly worried as groups of rioting get closer and closer to my home and people I care about.
Seeing the London riots shocked me, but then seeing them in Birmingham, a place I've always fought for against common stereotypes of it being a not so nice area just truly hurts.
I walked into Birmingham this morning and it was chilling, smashed windows, shops boarded up, ghost like.
One thing I would say is I'm immensely pleased with the amount of police I have seen so far.
I regret to say that from now on I will have a prejudice towards groups of black people I see, because it's the truth that it is prominently the black community and I'm angry at how they've let themselves down through everything they've been fighting for.
It's absolutely disgusting and sickens me. There are people starving in Africa and these people think they deserve a 3D TV for being tax payers. I'm so angry
Hope everyones safe
just because you've forgotten doesn't mean you're forgiven
This madness is rumoreed to keep spreading all over the country, norwich is rumored next, days like this make me wonder why the human race even exists, most people dont deserve there lifes.
If the police manage to arrest everyone, i think there should gt shipped to africa and help them for a while, so there learn what pain is.

I presume you're joking, Daryl, and that you actually paid for your new TV and all the bling? If you didn't then you are a common thief, and taking advantage of the crude anarchy we've seen in London and elsewhere marks you out as an anarchist yourself. Then think of all the consequences of a society where people have their homes burned down around them, small businesses are looted and destroyed and no-one can feel safe.
We can note that the man originally shot by the police last week was himself armed with an illegal weapon. It is reported that he didn't actually fire first. Poor victimised fellow. But if you were the police marksman who actually shot him just what indication would you be waiting for, knowing he was armed, before you felt justified in opening fire? "I say old chap, are you actually going to use your illegal weapon (acquired illegally) and if so please give me due warning so that I can get out of the way. I have a wife and children at home, whom I very much hope to see again, so do let me know clearly what your intentions are so that I can justify any action I may feel obliged to take." How readily do the media jump on the poor bloody man just trying to do his job, make awful decisions, and at the same time stay alive.
As to petrol bombing, which I saw much of in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, I firmly believe that anyone seen with a petrol bomb in their hands should be shot on sight. Why are they using petrol bombs except to inflict burns (possibly fatal) on the police (or soldiers in the NI case)? What possible right have they to take other people's lives into their own misguided hands?
I do very much hope that all this settles down soon and amicably. The huge majority of people in UK are law abiding. UK is one of the richest countries in the world and none of those taking part in the riots were actually starving or without some sort of roof over their heads. All of us can envy others, but surely not to this degree ...
