Christmas Traditions

Normally we spend it with my dad's younger sister and her partner and son... for the last few years (excluding last year) they've come to us but this year we're going to ours. christmas schedule is as follows:
On Christmas eve we all get to open one present each, normally we all open a present from the same person: my dad's older sister as she buys quite terrible presents (which sounds really ungrateful... but it's comedic) and then we drink a lot of mulled wine.

Christmas day always follows the same pattern... ALWAYS:
Me, my brother and my cousin wake up.
We sit on the sofa wrapped in duvets and open our stockings.
My brother and cousin (13 & 19) undoubtedly play "lounge football".
Grown ups wake up, join us on the sofas and drink tea.
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs is cooked and eaten, along with bucks fizz.
More bucks fizz is consumed.
We sit on the sofas and take turns to open one present each at a time.
Wrapping paper is used in a further game of lounge football.
Christmas dinner is cooked and vast quantities of wine are consumed.
Christmas dinner is eaten.
Christmas television is watched.
Cheese, pork pie, bread etc. is eaten.
Trivial Pursuit is played.

Boxing day, we have to go for a walk.

Last year tradition was completely ignored due to being in Africa... we still prepared a full Christmas dinner, had a tree and presents, drank champagne in the morning, played board games etc. But it wasn't really the same as we were in bikinis all day =p

Am supposed to be going to volunteer at a soup kitchen this year, if my mum can find one.

Surely they give homeless people more than just soup on Chrimbo?

oh we always get fruit, choc and a drink in our stockings. And we always put the fruit back in the bowl and eat the choc and drink before we get up tehe.

oh and my dad always puts a shinny new pound coin in the stocking (and wraps it up *rolls eyes*)

Me and my brother always get up really early and watch TV quietly for a few hours.
At around 8 we send the dog upstairs to wake the parents up.
Then we each take it in turns to open presents one at a time.
We eat dinner at 2 every year, but we cook the turkey the night before.
The we watch christmas TV and eat lots of chocolate and mince pies :)

Boxing day we usually go to my Aunts house and loads of my family are there, so we exchange presents and generally catch up as most of the family i only see once a year. we all have to wear some form of silly chritmas clothing like a hat, singing tie or novelty earings.

I don't do this anymore but when i was younger i made my dad buy 9 carrots, to leave out because i thought it was unfair that rudolph got loads of carrots and the other reindeer got nothing.

My family usually just does whatever there isn't really any tradition there.
I however listen to Merry Motherfu*kin' Christmas every year on Christmas morning. Nice way to start the day off.

On Christmas Eve I always wear a pair of new jammies ^^ sad, I know xD
On Christmas Day, I'm up early, check my pressies on the chair and leave for work at 7am. Work till 3pm, come home, Christmas Dinner, then open the presents under the tree.

30th December is my birthday.
New Years Eve we go out for dinner with the neighbours, then round to their house for the countdown.

New Years day another family 'Christmas' dinner.

I'm not big on the holidy season for many reasons.
1) not religious
2) ''Christ'' was not even born in December, which makes it ridiculous in mu opinion
3) Christmas is not even about religion anymore; it's all about presents and kids being spoiled into bratiness
4) whenever my family gets together (we are A LOT), add a bit of alcohol and you've got a disaster

So I don't celebrate.

But there is one tradition I enjoy, just for the fun of it. At work, on Xmas eve, we put the story of How The Grinch Stole Xmas on the radio on repeat for the entire shift (usually Xmas shifts are 12 hrs XD) or 'til the boss turns it off cuz it's driving him crazy. XD

Then I usually get home (my parents are usually still at the family party so I have the place to myself), have a few drinks (just enough to assure that I'll be sleeping for most of Xmas day) and curl up in bed with a good book or movie (often horror), dog beside me.
