None awareness is not nothingness. If I am not aware that it is not raining, it doesn't mean that it is not in fact raining. If I am not aware that my brother is knocking on my door because my music is too loud, it doesn't mean that he is not in fact knocking on my door.
If you are cremated, your body in the materialistic form becomes ashes and smoke. Carbon, amongst other elements. These elements become, as you rightfully said, a part of the atmosphere. Particles do not live. Particles exist, but they do not live. Therefore, if you are cremated, you are not alive through the particles that you become, but you still exist. Referring back to the original point, you are not nothingness as you still exist.
