the books/discharge leaflets all say 2-3weeks of bleeding. gah!
baby being really sleepy and not feeding. i think she's dehydrated coz she has a cold and is struggling to feed coz of blocked up nose. just waking her often to take milk and bathing in lukewarm water when she gets too hot.

if your worried about the bleeding talk to someone, midwife/ health visitor / doctor
2 people i know recently had to go back in for D&C cause afterbirth had been left, so dont leave it too long especially if its very dark of smelly.
*cuddles for baby Ella* its a rotten time of year so many bugs in the air

Maybe I'm feeling so crap because I have baby boy hormones in me?? I felt fine when I was pregnant with Madeleine...

lol maybe Helena!
It's not dark, heavy or smelly... just irritating.
i'm gonna get checked at 6 weeks (not routinely done in my area) and will request iron/ferretin levels checked again.

Hi Mandi I bled for 6 weeks after i had each of mine and then promptly had a period despite still breastfeeding so it's not unheard of. I was very anaemic though but having bled that long not sure if it was the cause of the bleeding or as a result. all this baby talk is such a reminder although my youngest is 8 now so ages ago for me! It might be worth making an appointment to see your GP about it because as far as I remember if you wait for the HV they will then contact the GP so you may as well cut out the middle bit and see someone quicker.

i vaguely remember havign 6 weeks and then a days break then a period with chloe, but wanted to check coz i wasnt sure.

have stopped bleeding now, here's hoping the expressing holds off a period lol! mand x

ps according to gov stats completley (or nearly completley) breastfeeding is supposed to provide 98% contraceptive cover for the first 6 months.... but if you're having periods you're obv fertile and it's not stopping the ovulation like it should. guess you're all in the 2% lol.

Yeah, breastfeeding is great contraception, 98-99% providing you're feeding on demand and not using any supplements (including a dummy). Having a gap of more than a couple of hours between any feeds reduces the effectiveness of it too. I know mums who've successfully used it for a year or so though, coupled with watching for signs of ovulation after 6 months once their babies were on solids. My periods came back when Oliver was 10 months, but I had a very short 'warning bleed' at 9 months so I knew I was likely to be fertile from then.

Make an appointment with your GP Bexx, they'll talk you through your options and can book you in with a midwife.

Hopefully a few of you remember me from many months ago. I was pregnant and really freaking out about it. My baby was born in early October. I see a few of you have also welcomed new babies since the last time I visited. Sorry, I'm bad at staying committed to something (like posting here). Anyway, I just need to vent and say that I'm soooo bored! It's driving me crazy. I really feel like I'm going mad here.

Also, my little one is quite constipated and he's in a lot of pain here. I feel so sorry for him. What can I do to help him? He's just been up crying for ages. He's been having problems with this for several weeks and nothing seems to help.

hi all, got my doctors appointment in a bit.
i think i'm only 4 weeks 5 days. but if my last 'period' was implantation bleeding which i think it might have been then i'd be 8 weeks and 5 days.

i've heard the gp's dont do much other than confirm the pregnancy and refer you to a midwife, i know its too early for a scan but i'm so worried about loosing it!

where do you go about getting private scans? i'd like one at 6 or 7 weeks.

hey everyone! new to RYL & the veterans...i'm the mother of an (almost) 17 month little boy. very much into talking about all things pregnancy/birth/babies. i've been wanting to get into some sort of woman's health field for a long time, thought about being a doula or doing midwifery for a while. i'm passionate about the topic but it honestly scares the crap out of me! haha :)

welcome Mothra

Well... I haven't been around for a while. You may have noticed some strange posts by me recently... I went into psychosis for a few weeks! That was a shock, realising all the things I thought were real, actually weren't! I'm feeling very 'wobbly' now and a bit 'out of it'. My emotions are all over the place, which could be due to pregnancy, but I dunno...

I'm feeling guilty that my poor baby has been exposed to lots of drugs now (anti depressants, anti psychotics) I sometimes wonder what chance he has with a mother like me?

Madeleine discovered yesterday that being naughty is fun. grrrr
She's having fun being very disabidient (sp?) if I tell her not to do something, she just gives me a cheeky look and carries on doing it! I know she's just boundary testing and it's a phase... but it's doing my head in. I feel like I'm always telling her off!

I think you're referring to me. My son was born Oct. 2. And yes, we have lactulose for him now. His constipation is gone, but now he's started throwing up. He has a good case of colic and the doctor thinks his little tummy problems are a result. It takes me forever to get him to sleep. The only way to get him to stop crying is to swing him in his carrier. The poor thing is finally asleep after practically a straight hour of crying.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I'm really desperate. We've tried so many things, but nothing really works. We have to physically swing him...the regular motorized baby swing doesn't even do it. I don't know how much more my weak little arms can take!
