Was ok once I got home. But now I'm just annoyed.

i found a large envelope with my name on it.
Was a letter from a literary agent and sample chapters I'd sent out a long while ago.
As I read the letter, expecting the standard rejection.
But talk about your up and downs; I read the line We would like to ask if you could send us the whole manuscript for your consideration.
I yelped out ecstaticly, I really did.
Then came the next sentance. We do charge a reading fee of £69.00

No legitimate literary agency charges a reading fee. So I knew I'd hit a dead end here.
In the dying hope I checked out a few forums online and saw what people had to saw about Chambers Literary Agency.
Yeah, not good.
They'll take your money and, more often than not, will reject your manuscript. if they do they demand retainers, bill authors for operating expenses, or otherwise derive income from any source other than the sales they make on their clients' behalf.
they're just a scam agent, basically.

Don't know how they managed to get themselves in the Writers and Artists Yearbook.

So, annoyed. very annoyed.

Oh no, that's really disheartening Adam :(
I've been planning to buy that Writers and Artists Yearbook for a while now but not so sure after reading that.

The writers and artists yearbook is a wonderful book. A must-have for any author. Even after this I'd still strongly recommend it.
Although you don't have to buy it, you can get it online.
99% of the agents in there are legit. It's just this one that's a problem.

They didn't tell that they charge reading fees in their Yearbook entry. So they lied to get in.
But they're not in there anymore, I just checked the online version.

Actually the online version is better because instead of readin entry after entry trying to find the agent that represents your type of writing; Fantasy, horror, romance etc. you just click I'm looking fr Agent. and type a word like Fantasy, into the Keywords and Bang: You have a list of agents that represent fantasy authors.

You can find it here: http://www.writersandartists.co.uk/

The book seems to have a really good reputation for being a bit of a 'must have' among writers (and artists obv.) Never knew there was an online version though! Will definitely have to check that out, won't need to get the book after all.
Amn't surprised that agent's been taken out. The cheek of asking writers for that much just to be read, it's not as if the average writer will have that amount of money to spend on just having their manuscript read. I guess they're banking on the desperately aspiring ones who will find a way of paying somehow.
I've got a book on how to make money writing poetry.

No legit agent will ask you for money.
No legit publisher will either.
They know that, with the right deal and publicity, they'll make enough money for everyone; even you.
But some people just get desperate and will do anything if it means a shot.

Never fall for self publishing either. Those are cons. they'll publish your work, for a fee, but its you who have to find a place to sell it. you have to handle your own publicity and sales and will rarely see much of a profit. almost all your money goes to the publishers fees.
With self publishing you might see a 10% profit return, at best.

Thanks for the tips :)
I can't say I know a lot about that side of things so it's helpful.

All i know I got from many long hours, days perhaps, of searching pages and pages of the net with all of these kinds of information.
I might as well pass it on and save others the searching time.
Or, god forbid, the pain of falling for one of these cons.

Getting angry will only make writers block worse.
Put it aside and go do something else. Play a video game, watch a movie, have a bath. Get laid. Do anything but think about that story for at least a couple of hours.
Come back to it slowly and after you're relaxed and you'll find it starting to flow easier and easier.
But STAY RELAXED! That's the important thing.

I've found trying to relax simply doesn't work. It's not something you can try to be. Or at least I can't.

Play a video game where you get to shoot, beat up, maim, eviscerate or kill monsters and/or zombies in some other amusing and imaginative way.
Always makes me feel better.

Honestly, laptops make procrastination all the worse! Being able to lie in bed and do stuff does not make you any more likely to get things done.
