Hi,

I'm new here and needing some advice.

I was jsut wondering if this is normal for child to do.

I have a two year old sister who I look after due to complicated issues at home, anyway rescently she has been going off her food and wont eat and everytime I give her a bottle she will only have one a day, her normal amount of bottles are 3 a day and one at night.

Is that normal?

thanks Star xxx

And is it formula or whole milk?
Thanks for the reply :)

No, she doesn't have a temperature.
Yes she is having her usual amount of wet and dry nappies.
It's whole milk,,,I can never get to grips with formula she does have bottles, she refuses sippy cups even though she's 2!

She's probably just testing the boundaries. I know my son does and hes not even a year and a half yet!
Success! after 3hrs of trying today, Faith is eating something at least once a day now.
She still won't drink anything she won't even hhave her bottle anymore can't tell mum she doesn't want anything to do with her at the moment and neither does dad.

I'm a bit lost and don't know what to do xxx

hey, at age 2 most kids stop having milk altogether, the guidleines are for kids 1-2years they need about a pint of milk a day (most split it into 2 bottles/cups, one at breakfast and one for bed).

right well my news.
horrendous birth story, don't really wanna share, a bit patchy as was high on gas and air and midwives coming and going on me.

she had a sluggish heartrate during labour so they kept rolling me about to try to wake her up, really painful for my hips. felt her descending as they did it at one point, took 3 of them to roll me back whilst i howled and screamed and i couldn't tell them i needed to be sat up to push, screaming in pain too much. they nearly had to cut me as i didnt have strength due to spd to push her head out. eventurally i had a tiny 1 degree tear which didn't need stitching.

so details: Ella-Mae born at 7:55am, 5/10/09 (5 days early) weighing 8lbs12oz. she is the spit of chloe when she was newborn.

am thus far managing to breastfeed, but my left boob is not co-operating. she won't latch on and no milk comes out. i expressed 0.5ml with a pump from it in 10minutes. will ask midwife about it tomorrow.

so yeah may not be about for a couple of days.
love mand x

did it all on gas and air

hey, i saw the midwife this morning, and we'd had a bad night with Ellie struggling to get a good latch. she's slightly jaundiced so the midwife supported my decision to switch to formula and pump as much breastmilk as i could.

still really onesided the left breast is hardly giving any milk but managed to pump 20mls total this evening. she's having 30-40mls every 3-4hrs. i think her umbilical stump is infected. i bathed her today after her first proper stool to comfort her a bit (she loves warm water) and i noticed that the 'funny smell' (i thought had been meconium in her hair from the birth) had got a lot stronger and her stump was a bit weepy.. not sure if i knocked the clip when putting her nappy on, but have kept an eye on it and am seeing midwife tomorrow afternoon.

am a lot happier now i decided to feed like we did chloe, as much pumped breastmilk as possible supplemented with formula. I really hated the sensation of breastfeeding and was up for hours last night crying because i felt guilty about wanting to stop. then i realised i did this with chloe and it was a major factor in the depression i got so sat with my mum and chloe and baby and matt (all awake at 3am!) and had a talk and decided i was only going to make myself worse by feeling guilty and that if i really didn't like the feeling of breastfeeding it wasn't going to be a great bonding process for us either. at least this way i'm getting a few hours sleep between feeds and matt is happy to help as well.

anyway, how is everyone else? nice to see you about Kelly and thanks for all the well-wishes xx

I love it, how's Oliver doing? :)
He's brilliant, lots of talking - we're starting to get sentences now, and he's started telling me when he needs the toilet so potty training is just beginning.. I'm sure it'll be a long time before he's actually out of nappies, but he seems keen to try!

Faith's screaming her head off. She still isn't eating much at all and won't drink unless it's milk from a bottle.
I'm braking down without help from mum and dad and don't know what to do with her at the moment...

Any advice would be useful,

Thanks Star xxxx
