merry hell? i used to live in kiddy, mum and dad used to put off going to the cinema coz the parking was such a nightmare!
chloe really ill with cold, sore throat, cough etc. she has been coughing for weeks, then was up a lot last night with her stomach, she had 3 attacks and ended up in my mum and dad's bed coz by 4am with no sleep i was shattered.
then all day today she's been whingeing and not wanting to go down. but on the other hand she's learnt that having her nose sucked out (aspirator) is a lot quicker and less stressful than having it wiped. so she's come up to me and offered me her nose when i got the thing out of it's box. and she took her own temperature with the ear thermometer, well sort of, she didn't hold the button down long enough, but she le me do it for her.
not really eating or drinking, i forced a pot of mango rice pudding down her throat inbetween screams coz she wanted to just play with it. and keep giving her juice. she's on her 3rd sleep of the day, hopefully will wake up a bit brighter to eat some tea.
hope ur all ok, mand x

Oh god yes, Merry Hell indeed, i used to work right over the road and at christmas it would take an hour to get the 1.5 miles home which usually took ten minutes! i still live up the road but avoid it unless absolutely necessary!
Sorry, i know i havent replied to your pm yet, i will do soon i promise.
I think this week has been the worst week of my life. I went for my scan on Tuesday and I'm definitely having a miscarriage. My sister also went for her appointment and got diagnosed with Lymphoma. She's now in intensive care, having a machine breathing for her. I'm absolutely terrified
huge hugs ashleigh, i hope you start to feel better physically, at least, soon.
chloe is a little bit better today, i woke her up at 5am to have more calpol as she was burning up and coughing constantly and retching as well. she asked for juice so we gave her a small bottle of squash and brushed her teeth, the minute i put her down she sat up (she had been asleep) but i told her it was na-nights time, she tucked the sheet in and put her arms down on either side really tight, then i left her, and the coughing stopped and was last we heard til 9am.
she'd found the last bit of juice in the night and had drunk it, she's a bit moany but a lot better.

anyone got some advice...
chloe is determined to feed herself... even if she can't. she is barely eating and i don't know if its because she's nto hungry because she's ill, if it's because she can't pick it up on the fork or spoon and get frustrated or something else.
she will not take food from a spoon in someone else's hand, unless said spoon/fork is being used by the person in question and she is just stealing food.
she will sit and poke peas for hourswith a fork... but the minute you try to help throws a paddy. we've tried letting her play and using a second fork or spoon to feed her with... she will take a couple of mouthfuls then gives up. she used to take a loaded fork or spoon and eat from it, but won't even do that now. some food (ie home roast) does not easily go on a fork orspoon, especially when she insists on banging it up and down vertically, it al falls off. i tried her with ravioli in an attempt to make somethign stick to the fork. we're using a plastic picnic fork i found, 12 pieces cutlery set from morrisons - 75p, its got rounded ends so less sharp than metal.
she does ok with desserts as long as they are kinda yoghurty. she will lick whatever sticks to the spoon off and so gets a little bit, but she doesn't even try to pick up the stuff with fingers anymore.
dunno what to do. really stressing me out, i hate shouting at her. daddy has to come down and take over.

Pegward i'm real sorry to hear about the miscarriage and your sister...x
Mand i think you've just got to let her get on with feeding herself.
Esmé always been the independent type and wouldn't let me help feed her or get the last bits in the bowl since she was just over a year old. Though, admittedly she was always very good with the spoon and fork to be able to do most of it herself.
Will she eat it, if you hold the spoon/fork to pick up the food with her so she is helping and then once you've got the food on let her do the rest alone?
Otherwise you are just gonna have to let her learn how to feed herself, she'll get it soon enough and if you're worried about her not eating much because of it, give her more finger based foods at lunch times.

i think she's just got a poor appetite at the mo because usually she'd pick up peas with her fingers, well she'd pick up anything with her fingers.
for ages she'd let me load a spoon then take it to feed herself, we started when she was weaning at 6months letting her hold one end of the spoon and us on the other end so we could guide it in. now she howls if we touoch the spoon or fork. we started with a fork because when she was away with mum and dad she had chicken nuggets or sausage or things like that and coped really well, had a whale of a time.
now she's just happy to mash it all up with the fork then push it away. i'm aiming for at least half a banana a day at lunchtime and i'm trying her with sandwiches or crackers... which always end up getting chucked, but she'll eat cheese and corned beef (i know it's salty but it's the only cold meat she'll actually eat) and some boiled egg sometimes. just worries me that she's near enough leaving all of her breakfast and tea, however she ate a whole cornetto yesterday (grandma got out a sugar free lolly ice for chloe and a cornetto for herself and ended up eating the lolly coz chloe stole the cornetto!) and she'll have the odd bit of what someone else is eating.
she's stopped stealing food for the mo, she'll pick it up, maybe lick it and then climb up to put it in whoever's mouth, so last night i got soggy pre-licked chicken nuggets for tea and i wonder why i have caught her cold! she nearly choked my brother last night, he was eating a bag of crisps and chloe decided he needed help to get them in his mouth, she was stuffing them in so fast he couldn't keep up! she's had her bottle and 2 mouthfuls of weetbix for brekkie today and has gone out with grandma and grandad so mummy and daddy can dose themselves up and try and get better!

Pegward, I'm really sorry to hear how awful things are at the moment for you and your family. Look after yourself xx
I hope chloe's feeling better now.
Can anyone advise me when you should buy babies proper shoes? Adela walks around quite well now, has been doing for about a week. Is now too soon? Also advise on good types / brands? thanks ladies!
clarkes i've found to be good, i was looking at pedipeds (i think that's what they're called) but the local supplier only does school age and up kinda sizes.
clarkes told me they have to walk 7 steps, then told me they have to walk the length of a room, then i went to a different store and chloe didn't have to do anything, staff didn't ask how well she walked etc...
they take a photo for free if its their first shoes. you could ask your health visitor if you're worried about if she's ready or not. i will warn you chloes first shoes only lasted 9 weeks til she needed new ones (after having been the same size for 7 months!) and cost £25-£30 a pop.

i bought freyjas first pair of shoes after she had been walking for a few weeks confidently. they say that you shouldnt keep your babies shoes on in the house so you will only really need to buy them if your little one is walking around outside and needs the protection of the shoes.
freyja took her first steps in april, started walking confidently in may and it was around the end of may/beginning of june that i took her for shoes because she wanted to walk outside and i couldnt let her.
i wasnt able to get her walkers at first, got her cruisers because her feet were too small for the walkers. but shes in proper walkers now. i got the first pair from clarks, second pair from start rite.

on the flip side, they also say that wearing shoes helps the feet develop and helps stop them from walking on the sides of their feet etc. we've noticed that shoeless chloe walks on the inside of her feet and stumbles a lot, if it doesn't correct she might need special insoles to help her. also babies have super wide feet usually (chloe's an f fitting) and shoes help the feet to narrow and gain height, I rarely wore shoes when i was little and my feet are a double e (EE) width fitting meaning buying shoes is a nightmare!

I was advised to wait until Esmé was walking confidently until i got her first shoes and then it was still a few months after because no where could fit her as one foot was fatter and the other longer, it was a bit of a nightmare. And even now all her shoes have had to be T-bar shoes except her crocs. I've found Start-right shoes to be better than Clarks, and i didn't like the fact that when i went to Clarks they tried to sell me shoes that didn't even fit Esmé properly!
