I've looked through this thread and not found this tip anywhere, so I thought it might be useful. I like tops that have see-through gauzy/lacy long sleeves (not a great example, but it shows what I mean), but I find that my more recent scars tend to show through. What I've taken to doing is buying skin-coloured tights and cutting them up to make arm-bands that I wear underneath see-through sleeves. If someone looks really closely, they might be able tell that your arms are a bit darker than they should be, but no one does. :) I've spent whole evenings like this with close friends and no-one noticed a thing.

Also, seeing as prom/ball season might be coming up for some of us, I thought I'd draw attention to Oasis. They've brought out black and navy blue full-length dresses with long sleeves, and they're quite cheap for occasionwear. If anyone queries your choice, just say you fancied being a bit different, or that you know it gets cold in the evenings, or something like that.

I've found these really useful:

http://www.hijabstoreonline.com/inde...ex&cPath=72_74

They're like long arm-warmers, I guess, but made from stretchy cotton rather than wool or whatever, and they're quite cheap. If you wear them with short-sleeved shirts or t-shirts, it effectively looks like you've got a normal long-sleeved t-shirt on underneath. The advantage is that your torso and armpits aren't covered by multiple layers, so you don't end up sweating as much. Surprisingly, I haven't found that they ride down at all, but you could use that tape mentioned earlier in the thread if you have this problem.

Any cute swim suit bikinis that would cover scars on my hips? I am fairly skinny so my friends and family all expect me to wear bikinis....

Have you tried a Bikink with shorts as the bottoms?

You could wear board shorts. They are like normal shorts but are made for swimming a nd doing water sports

I have scars just above my hip. They're too high up for board shorts to cover up, and too low for a tankini, oh and they are just in the gap in my full-body swimsuit. I don't really care if my friends see the scars, but I'm really worried about my parents. I've just been moisturizing them occasionally but they are all really recent and bright pink (i have super pale skin)... So yeah. Anybody know what I could do?

I found Snail Gel brilliant for scar reduction. You can get it in Holland and Barrett. It's £21.99 for a small tub (I know ) but if you go when its 2-4-1 or 'buy 1 get one for 1p' then it works out better.

I saw this cover up tip on another forum too:

Quote:
All you need is a pair of normal, everyday tights!

STEP
1
Take your pair of sexy tights, and chop off the feet (making
sure that you still leave enough leg length to cover your arms
sufficiently)

STEP 2
Cut a hole in the crotch of
your tights!

This doesn't need to be big, as it's gonna
s-t-r-e-t-c-h

STEP
3
Voila! You now have a lovely new top!

The
legs of the tights have now magically become the sleeves, and what was the
crotch, is now, well a place to put your head through
So now, just
put it on-I find under your top works best...

I
also find that it's useful to cut thumb holes at the end so that the sleeves
stay firmly over the arms and dont wriggle up!

^ Ooooooo, that actually looks really nice! ^_^

Thankfully, my scars are faded enough to be pretty inconspicuous now. (I can finally wear shorts again this year, woohoo!) But before now, tights were a LIFE SAVER. You can get tights that are specifically designed to keep you cool in Summer, I can't remember what the material is, but it said so on the packet! :D

Wearing black/coloured tights underneath shorts seems to be a fashion statement this year too. I do it and no-one bats an eyelid! In fact, I think I prefer it than just wearing shorts alone! And of course, as the OP said, skin-colour tights still work really well on very hot days when you want people to think your legs are bare.

*bump* It shall be a hot summer for me (spending it with my family so need to cover up) but I'm experimenting with fake tan, which helps (scars are quite old).

I just wear a ton of bracelets on my arms, specifically using arm warmers to cover up the worst of it. And I wear guy's shorts that go to just above my knee so nothing on my legs show. And I don't plan on ever swimming again...unfortunately since I love swimming and it's one of the few athletic activities that doesn't hurt my joints...

Aloe Vera gel works well if you put it on a open wound- It protects it, makes it heal faster, reduces scars and even makes your skin really soft in the process :)

^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but you really shouldn't put anything that isn't sterile saline on an open wound.

You could wear long silky gloves if that's not too posh for the event.

Debenhams do basic black/white ones for a tenner: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/...xtgloves~Women.

I'm sure if you looked around a bit, you could find different colours and styles elsewhere online - you can definitely get ones that aren't so long if you don't need them to go all the way past your elbow.

EDIT: Search 'opera gloves' or 'evening gloves' on Amazon - there are loads and they aren't that expensive. :)
