Lying on the floor he felt a trickle of sweat fall from his neck, although his whole body seemed to be shivering with cold. He could hear voices around him as he felt his legs being raised slightly and a cool glass of water pressed into his hand. "He's coming round now, how're you feeling down there?" Jack heard himself mumble a reply as he opened his eyes and made to sit up.
"Easy there soldier, you hit your head pretty hard on the way down, just sit tight and we'll have that seen to. You just fainted." His searching eyes clocked who was talking to him then, and they fell on a kind looking nurse kneeling at his feet. He saw his legs balanced on her knees as he felt the blood running from his feet to keep his vital organs functioning. On either side of him there appeared to be others preventing him from hitting his head again or, as he felt, preventing him from running away.
Turning his head slightly he felt a new wave of dizziness wash over and he shut his eyes once more, "Rosie", he whispered.
"Rosie hun? Who's that?"
"She's here. I have to be with her," he suddenly made to get up with a new wave of energy taking over his body, "Oh no you don't, Rosie can wait, you have to stay here for the moment."
"But what if Rosie can't wait? What if Rosie's holding on for me to see her alive one last time and i'm wasting that time now lying here?" The woman seemed without a word to say then and she paused, "What's her surname?"
"Griffiths, Rosie Griffiths, please I have to see her." It was then the turn of the woman's face to turn ashen coloured, "Okay," she replied, "I'll see what I can do"...

The girl watched as her alarm clock flashed to 6:30am and the moment she was allowed to officially wake up. Rushing into her father's room she jumped onto the bed in anticipation of the day ahead. He was alone there, his wife absent, lying still under the covers with the unquestionable scent of alcohol on his breath. She sat beside him excitedly, nudging him 'accidently' a few times to shake him back to the living, but after 20minutes of constant nudging her excitement had gradually dwindled to questioning, worry, and fear. “Dad? Dad?! Dad, wake up dad!” She shook him now, the fear overtaking her body. “Come on Dad this isn’t funny!” The colour was slowly draining from her face as she realised her shakes were redundant to his unconscious form. As she shook him she remembered what she had been told in a school video, the memories flooding back, “If you find someone unconscious… head back… airways clear… onto their side… choke on sick…,” and repeating the words in her head, she followed the instructions rigidly. The ambulance arrived not long after she had hung up, clear words of panic ringing in her ears, and as she watched them load him into the ambulance she wondered quite how many other 11 year olds over the world would be watching their fathers get bundled into ambulances on Christmas day this year…
