Right what the hell is Kroger. I went on there and searched for vegan and even when I filtered to 'cookies' it still puts several different "beet puffs" and "cauliflower puffs" between each crappy vegan 'cookie' option.
OK, this is less abhorrent. I found some cake bites. They are $6.49 though, which feels like a lot. Oh God, I googled and it's a lot. At least there's no cauliflower puffs.
Kroger's search function is horrible lol. Also good to know my local options really do suck.
Grocery store food isn't taxed (but non food items are)! At least where I live. But yes all prices are before tax which agreed is dumb and confusing. But apparently it's different in each tiny locality to make it even more confusing. Like once I went on a road trip so unfortunately ended up at Starbucks in each place, and every single time the price of the same drink was different because of tax wtf.
Vegan sausages sound very odd to me but hopefully they are nice Jenna.
Also Lio very glad you managed to acquire the soup and enjoyed it, that is super exciting!

I'm trying to find some everyday type stuff that I could switch to vegan options and decided to ask here rather than do my own research.
Is there any good/decent and not too overpriced hot chocolate powder? (Looking at you, Jenna!)
Then I had a question I completely forgot. Oh well.
And also - are tinned baked beans vegan by default or would I have to look specifically for a vegan one?
I remembered question two now - is there any vegan butter that actually tastes like butter? Pretty sure margarine is vegan anyway but I cannot with the nasty flavor!!!!
Any staple/common foods that are vegan by default? Or stuff that's easy to switch to a vegan option to?
Most hot chocolate powder that isn't 'instant' is vegan - as in the ones you make with milk rather than water. Cadbury and Galaxy do instant vegan hot chocolate but it's quite expensive.
Baked beans are vegan unless they got sausages in. Then they're only vegan if it says on the tin.
Vegan butter - Flora do a vegan butter block that I really like. It comes in salted and unsalted. Violife also do a pretty good block butter.
Potatoes.

Def talking instant - if a food takes more than two minutes to make I usually don't bother. I think I can justify paying a bit extra within reason since it's not sth I use a lot but thought it would be a nice and easy way to have an occasional tasty treat when I want one.
I think not cooking is the main hurdle for me as tinned, frozen etc as well as ready meals have stuff added that might un-vegan it.
Also - frozen chips (unless cooked in beef/goose fat), veggie burgers (the cheap fake meat ones should be good for the no herbs/spices issue). Obv dinosaurs. Vegan ready meals do tend to be garlic/spice heavy which is annoying.
Quite a lot of pot noodles are vegan. Moma make instant porridge pots (add boiling water), I think the salted caramel and almond ones are the only vegan ones, but Tesco do have own brand free from ones and I think Quaker have some too.
Most frozen onion rings (can't remember if onion is OK). Heinz make vegan spaghetti hoops and I *think* some store brand are vegan too. There are vegan pukka pies (mince and onion and 'chicken' and mushroom). Rustlers do microwave vegan chicken burgers, and their veggie beef ones are vegan apart from the cheese slice (which I think is very silly).
Oreos, hobnobs, party rings, bourbons, biscoff biscuits, some digestives, most rice cakes, jammie dodgers and choccy dodgers are vegan.

No onions or onion related foods for me & the pukka pies are too spicy with a weird texture. I do enjoy the ASDA ones though and I think the M&S vegan pie is also okay.
Will look into burgers (nice change from 50% of my food being sandwich) and instant porridge.
I eat chips but not too fond of them. I do have some sweet potato fries in the freezer though - just need to remember buying sth for cooking things in the oven. Would be nice to find some ready made pasta sauce but between not coping with garlic or basil or herbs in general that's not a promising quest.
For snacks I don't eat a lot of non chocolate ones and due to vegan chocolate being expensive af they'll just be non vegan for the time being.
Re pasta you probably know this but we just use salt, pepper, nutritional yeast, and a bit of vegan butter on ours. Sometimes add some vegan cheese. Might be a bit plain for you though?

Potato waffles ARE vegan, which is pretty excellent.
Regarding pasta sauce, what are your feelings on just getting some plain passata, adding whatever seasonings you know are OK (+ maybe a stock cube) and sticking some veggie mince in it? That's as close as I can think of to garlic and herb free pasta sauce!
