I get what people mean when thay say that they should be in their respective boards but what if you're feeling suicidal because you have just SIed or just suffered abuse or bullying. The post is then going to include stuff to do with it and could trigger people. Does that make sense?

I know your saying it's Serious so people should expect all post to be serious but what if you want to help people but avoid threads to do with ED's you wont know which is safe to look at and what to not look at. Also if the post is about suicide for example then it's too Serious to go in another board.

From the description, it's everything that doesn't fit anywhere else.
If you're feeling suicidal because you've just cut yourself then the main point you want help on is the suicidal feelings, so the SI mention wouldn't be that triggering, I would've thought.

Not to mention, it's called "Serious discussion" you shouldn't be in there if you're feeling fragile. Surely if the poster feels their post is just TOO triggering it needs a label, they can mention it in the subject title?
I don't think serious needs all these labels.

I feel more able to support others when i'm in a fragile state, because it takes my mind off my own sh*t in my head. But i don't want to go onto the serious section and not know what thread to click in fear of the content. That's not what RYL is about. The ONLY thing that triggers me is talk of rape/sexual abuse - and this often comes up in the serious section.

The point of this is to have a pre-warning system as well as not over-doing it. But i highly doubt adding an extra "Sexual Abuse" label to the list is over doing it. Other people have also said they find this topic triggering - which is why we (or atleast i) avoid the board, but if i want to support someone i don't want to have graphic rape/sexual abuse content thrown in my face without a warning. Serious is for serious discussions and sometimes ED/SA IS serious enough to warrant a thread in that board, especially when they're consistantly suicidal and may say triggering things which may trigger those in the actual sexual abuse forum.

I'd find it more beneficial and worth while to know of the rough content inside a thread than constantly click and find out it's something personal to me that a) I'm not going to beable to support/advise someone on and b) will trigger the sh*t out of me. If i see the warning label then i can go to the next thread.

I just don't see the issue. If the majority feel it would be beneficial to add a sexual abuse warning label in serious then so be it.

Oh also - people often don't mention what the thread content is in the thread title which is incredbily frustrating but yes..

i see what you're saying, Crumple. i suppose my main concern is if there isn't a sexual abuse label, then people won't think to put the label in their titles. i know it's playing on the side of safe, but it's been raised as a need by a number of people, which suggests to me that it's a big enough issue to have that label available.

Just to be fair, no one knows what the 'majority' thinks seen as only a few of us are participating in this conversation, so don't say you have the majority on your side when you don't know.
I do understand what you're saying but I stand by what I said earlier. If people think it will be useful then there's not really a problem, and ofcourse an extra label wouldn't hurt but then we risk putting too many labels everywhere again, they start to become part o the background and no one really takes notice of them, or cares.

If we have fewer labels people are more likely to mention what their post is about in their post title, too.

Well as it's primarily not upto the members i'm sure whoever puts the labels in place will see what would benefit the community more.
Also, i said "IF the majority" not "Well THE majority think.." - like whirlpools has stated there have been quite a few people talk about keeping the ED/Sexual Abuse trigger labels in serious. For me the most important board that needs proper thinking on is the Serious, but people are being hell bent on saying "no" without seeing the bigger picture and seeing/asking/thinking what would be more beneficial for the board on the whole.

I mean, you can't have a zillion labels for ED but only 2 for Serious. Plus when the sub-forum comes into place some of the labels would have to be removed.

I think the trigger system is pointless (especially in ED when people WILL trigger themselves if they want to anyway), considering how little we can really say here anymore. I would've thought that if something is ED triggering it would be in the ED board, if something was very triggering/for a multitude of things it would be in serious, and so on...

I've read posts with 'very triggering' or whatever that label is, and they've been about stuff i'd probably talk about in everyday conversation! If everything is labeled - as has been said - the warnings don't count for anything.

Hindsight is a rather beautiful thing...

I don't think it's been officially decided whether or not the subforum actually happen? Either way, in the meantime, we surely may as well do what we can in regard to the board, to improve it, shouldn't we? Even if it does come into place, those trigger warnings were the ones discussed in the 'how to improve the ED board' thing. If you go in knowing you get triggered by people restricting, you can avoid that and offer support for the people who are suffering from COE, based on the labels. It just means that you're aware of what's being talked about - maybe even opening the ED board up to more people, too, I dono.

Also, I don't think it's anything to do with not 'seeing the bigger picture'. It's a discussion, and there are split opinions. It doesn't mean that any one opinion is more correct than the other, it's just trying to reach conclusions. Just because people (myself included) don't like the idea of having labels in serious that don't really fit in serious anyway, considering the forum descriptions, it doesn't mean that we're 'hell-bent' on saying no, and ignorant about RYL or 'what's best for RYL as a whole'. tbh. Nobody knows that, so it's a case of discussion - like this - and reaching a conclusion as a result.

I don't go onto the ED board (which i've stated numerous times) - but from when i remember when i did go on there when i first joined, they have so many trigger warnings already. So really, they will still have plenty of labels when they're put into place, so really nothing is changing on the ED board other than an extra 2 labels added (EDNOS & COED/BED).
So i don't see how it's right to add so many labels to one board, but not enough on one of the most used boards on RYL.
The sub-forum isn't a "given" but i believe it will happen because it would be beneficial for the community. Some people from that discussion have now branched onto the ED board, but still many of us aren't able to which is why a lot of people use the "More to love" thread as a substitute.
I wasn't in the discussion in regards to "improving" the ED labels because i felt it wouldn't make me feel any more comfortable going in there. I'm just pointing out that it doesn't seem plausable to have so many labels on one board, but not necessary labels on a more used board.

Serious is probably one of the top 3 regularly used boards (excluding general chat) - so concentration should be on them, but obviously discussing the others aswell. Firstly, suicide is really a given on the serious board, so i feel that label is a given anyway (this is just my opinion) - Adult is all well and good, but it doesn't give any clue as to what the content may be other than "Adult" but "Adult" could mean anything. It could be that someone is in serious trouble debt wise which a lot of adults have to deal with, it could be to do with sexual abuse, it could be anything. I thought the point of the labelling system was to cut out the trigger warnings, and put labels in that give a very precise and clear indication as to what to content is.
Sexual Abuse is quite a common subject to pop up on the serious board, so i feel it would be a necessary label to put in, as well as eating disorders.
So for me, for serious, it would be:

Sexual Abuse
Eating Disorder
Suicide
Graphic

I feel those 4 should be the main focus for serious.
Some members may feel in a desperate state in regards to there ED or SA, for example, if someone has exhausted a lot of options in regards to there ED they may be very serious in ending there life because of it. In regards to SA people may be going through a difficult time - such as court cases or going through the police - which can both be distressing times, and they might feel that the only way out is suicide - i don't feel these would be appropriate for the original boards because i feel the boards as they are (MH/ED/SA) are for ongoing issues/support, not suicidal posts.

If the labels i've quoted above aren't added to serious i feel it may discourage suicidal people who suffer with ED's or SA from knowing where to post. Sometimes people feel so heavy and weighed down with suicide they don't feel comfortable posting in the necessary boards for fear of bringing others down which i can completely understand.

That's just my view on things.

i ono, just an idea. would get rid of all the labels on the boards. mand x

I REALLY like that idea, but I think that would be more of a code thing to do. The mods can't do that, I think. (If we can I have no idea how we'd do it)

I don't know why not, I'm just not comfortable with them.
I agree with you here. I had a "For instance" but I forget what it was.

In reference to Amaryllis and Dreaming's posts: Well if someone hadn't fully accepted they had an eating disorder yet, they'd be a bit b*ggered when it came to posting in the ED board with the right label...

I was referring to Jo's quote about how behaviour would be better than name of eating disorder. Talking to her.

Well if you said you were talking to Jo then obviously you were, no need for the "talking to her" at the end of your sentence.
And you could have quoted her - your comment could have been to anyone.
