I have felt this way for over 10 years with very little release.

I have lost friends before. i dont trust people easily.

with steph it was different. we understood each other.

he first words after finding out about last night were. 'you were going to leave me'

all i could do was admit it

Sounds to me like your friend is hrting right now. Perhaps they dont know what to do with their emotions. There upset and scared at the thought of losing you. This shows that they love you a great deal.
Give them a little bit of time, they will come around. But they wont if you keep doing it to them.

They would. Every day they would need to some around to th fact that they would never see you, a personthey obviously love, ever again.
Dont underestimate this. They care for you. They would never be better without you. Thats just your own minds way of trying to battle against logic.
