Unfortunately there is no magic wand. Could you brainstorm some ideas about how to move forward? Maybe get someone to help you with that?

I did a step forward. I asked for prn instead of fighting at the door.

That's really great and I'm glad you recognise it as a step forward. How are you feeling now?

I have made a commitment to myself to stay on the ward until ward rounds. I will review how this is going on Friday evening.

That sounds like a good plan, I hope you can keep it up. Have you mentioned it to someone so they can help you with it if you need any support?

Yes my family. I might have told a nurse too but can't remember...

Edit
I think I just told another patient, not a nurse!

It's great that you've told your family. Would probably be a good idea to say to the staff too.

I told a friendly nurse, warned him I might struggle. He was very pleased.

Brilliant! I'm glad he responded well. I am pleased too that you have spoken to someone. :) Keep moving forward, you can do this.

A nurse has asked me not to ask them for help with my therapy skills because they don't feel confident helping. Which is a shame because she was really helpful, it was her who led me to the decision to stay safe on the ward until ward rounds.

Edit:
Sorry, there's no real answer to this, is there?

I found something and used it as a poor implement. Now there's this big secret but I can't surrender it which I'll have to if I tell ANYONE. I can't have my cake and eat it. I have taken some PRN to calm down. Some might say I should have had the PRN first and I could've. I kept telling myself, "you don't have to do this" but somehow I ended up doing it.

Should I tell the psych in ward rounds next week? They're only scratches, max.

Sorry this has happened. If you're going to mention it in your ward round why don't you just try and mention it now or before then? You need to be safe. It's a shame they don't feel able to help you with therapy skills, did you say that they DO help?

Would you be able to try again? How do you feel about using your therapy skills alone?

Often I can do it alone, just sometimes I get stuck. Mum and L can help but it's harder over the phone and they both have to work.

It seems reasonable to me that staff should be trying to help you with your skills if you get stuck and can't phone someone. Even if they think they can't be of much help you are saying that they do help. Maybe it feels to them like it's not their role or something and they feel out of their depth because they don't know much about those therapy skills. Keep doing what you're doing. Are staff helpful in other ways?

There are a few staff who it helps to talk to when things are really bad but I'm not very good at asking to talk.

I understand. Sometimes when I've been in hospital I've written something down like 'can I talk to someone please' and then just showed it to someone if you think that might be an easier way to ask? It's much better to be brave and see if you can talk to someone than leave it and end up struggling and things potentially getting out of hand. Of course it's still important to use your skills etc when you are able to do so on your own.
