I listen to Paramore and I'm not emo.
I AM OFFICIALLY OFFENDED BY THAT WORD.
Yes you are!accept it!
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
I don't get the chat room tbh, it says that there is general and mostly general, then it's mostly serious and completely serious, and yet half the time in mostly serious people are talking about things that should be in general, when others are trying to get the support they need by chatting in the serious discussion forum.
I thought it would be a good place to go, but for me it seems like a place to just talk about random stuff and when people need support half the time it goes off topic because people are chatting generally in the serious discussion sections, and others miss what those trying to seek help are saying.

Reason: removing names as its unfair to imply these people dont need support.
Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

I think sometimes it takes a nudge to get people to change the conversation, sometimes even asking someone if they would pm you as you need support. People will listen but sometimes being calm about not being noticed straight away can help the situation often find if someone is rude about being ignored, it just grows into a massive mess and is not productive for anyone.

Reason: Ive removed Toms entirely unfair post and so am deleting all references to it.
I've found that sometimes a gentle reminder can be helpful. If I've found something not suitable, for general reasons and because I disliked the conversation, I've just asked if the topic can be changed and people have complied. Of course, general chat in serious can often be to relax the atmosphere and I know I've initiated this in cases where someone needs distracting but might want to talk about serious stuff at any point. I know that in this situation you might suggest going to general, but yeah, the conversations can verge into seriousness too.
Mostly, if you ask if someone can PM you or help you somehow then you'll get a response. In my experience, not always, but mostly.
Chat can be supportive in all rooms, you just to know how to ask for it, and depending on the people, some will want to know you before putting their effort in, and some will not.
This is very true.
Especially when sometimes, people don't want to accept support. It's difficult to know how to handle a situation.
And it's hard to know if someone just wants a rant or support. And sometimes you get shouted at for saying what they don't want to hear Etc Etc.

I know there are mods in there, but it doesn't seem to have any difference?
Not slagging anyone off at all, I just don't really understand it. Maybe it's because I'm quite new. I hope this is seen as constructive criticism, if not then feel free to edit whatever you need to. I've had a crap day, so am liable to post in an angry way without realising.
Also, if the conversation isn't serious and you're wanting a serious conversation, just a gentle poke normally works - if you go in with all guns blazing you can be met with frustration, whereas most of the time if you just raise it in a polite way people are more than willing to listen.
There always has to be an element of responsibility there. You can't not say anything and expect people to know what you want, or that you do want support, for example. A lot of people go to the rooms where the regulars are in because that's where the most people are - if you do want support and the chat is pretty general, it doesn't take much to just say that you need support and is anybody around that you can talk to? Or could they move if the conversation they're having isn't serious in a serious room? It just helps if people know what you want, essentially.
Oh yeah: don't just randomly whisper people asking for support without there being some sort of interaction before. It's just not cool, it puts the other person in a pretty awkward position.
What no one likes is someone coming into chat, and within 5 seconds complaining that
a- no one has greeted them
b- no one is supporting them
or
c- jumping into a massive rant which surprises people
It is often a good idea to wait more than a few seconds for people to say hello- perhaps even better to say hello yourself first, especially if you are new.
Also, people may be away from their computers or unable to support people so rocking up into chat, posting things like "Omg I wanna die" or similar then complaining that no one will support you is not going to help the situation.
As always, it's often a good idea to take on board the support and advice people give rather than coming into chat time and time again with the same problems....it gets old, fast.
