I just got interview for over two hours by this lovely lady at group about what it's like being LGBT in Cumbria, as a part of a project comparing how society treats minority groups in different places all over the country. It was so good, as nerdy as that sounds. We're used to people coming into the group to do stuff like this, but this is the first time I've ever felt that they were genuinely interested in every single thing I had to say and that all my thoughts, experiences and opinions were perfectly valid. Quite empowering really, knowing that you might be doing something to help good changes happen :] /ramble
How's everyone else doing? =]

Haha, Josh, I think you might be wrong there. If everyone else has one you'll be more likely to be seriously injured. At least fencing swords have tips on them so they don't (usually) break the skin.
Marie that sounds pretty great! Was it like an academic researcher or government or what?
Apparently next month it's the 10 year anniversary of S.O.P.H.I.E
I've supported them several times in the past. By support I mean, given money to.

It really was, Claire :] They were government type people, working in Equality and Diversity =]

Aw, that's great. It was probably really good for them to have someone interested. I know from doing my dissertation that even just getting interviews can be hard, and it's even worse when getting answers is worse than pulling teeth!

They seemed to be really happy at the end of the session, and seemed really grateful, so hopefully they got what they were looking for =)
As a group, we're always really keen to get involved in stuff like this, but every person who's been in the past couple of years has been so... unappreciative. And just not interested in our opinions; like they know us better than we do. It's nice to find people who are actually passionate enough about what they're doing to do their jobs well, it makes a huge difference on both sides :)

Yeah I think that can happen sometimes. I know that when I did interviews I always tried to be really appreciative. They didn't have to talk to me after all, especially since it was just an undergraduate dissertation. Quite a few of them were postgrads who had been through the trauma of getting interviews themselves and so were happy to help out anyway. So it worked out okay in the end.
*makes mental note to get in contact with Marie's group if she ever needs to interview folk*

Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere.
It's the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Following the horrific murder of Sophie Lancaster, her family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established and it became a registered charity in 2009
The aims and objectives of the Charity are as follows:
To create a lasting legacy to Sophie.
To provide educational group-works that will challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures.
To campaign to have the UK Hate Crime legislation extended to include people from “alternative subcultures” or “Lifestyle and Dress”
One way to support them is to buy this badge for £1.50
The money goes to SOPHIE
The badge is pretty small actually. about the size of a £2 coin.
You can also buy SOPHIE wrist bands and various clothing items. All of which donate all, or a large portion of their proceeds to the SOPHIE campaign.
I have one of the badges and I've just bought a wrist band.
