It's what people used to do in the days where there weren't midwives around. *shrug*
Yes it is, but then mortality rates for mother and child were higher... I think home births are great, but I also think it's good to have trained people available if needed
Can't remember if i saw it on here or netmums, but someone pointed out that even hundreds of years ago there would usually be someone attending who was an elder, the shaman or the woman of the village who had more experience etc. Without getting into it too much, midwives are very important.

hey, chloe still wakes for a night feed, she feeds every 5hours still.
the heartburn myth was true for me.
we use normal bonjela on chloe - she hates the 2m+ banana flavoured one, so we just use a tiny amount of the 4m+ one on her. shuts her up instantly... you can see her sucking her gums trying to eat the stuff lol.
she's starting to commando crawl everywhere. you put her on her belly with a toy out of reach and she kicks and pulls herself over to it! she is learning to roll over too and if she doesn't want to be on her tummy she kicks and pushes until she rolls over.

I used to look after a little boy from when he was a few months old, so his mum could go back to work as a nurse. Bonjela was the most fantastic stuff I've ever come across! I really knew about it if I took him out somewhere and forgot it, because it works so well when you use it... hopefully little Chloe will get through this round of teething quickly.
Yeah, unfortunately a lot.
Esmé only has 4 teeth, the 2 front bottom came first in November, then the 2 front top which was back in Jan/feb time, so she really is due some teeth lol, but i'm dreading it. She really suffers when she's teething.

Hey this medicine all are discussing is it sold here in the US? One of my little guys is teething and I am using Hylands teething tablets, Orajel, and Tylenol for him, but this other stuff sounds great. Hey also saw the latest pics of Chloe, she is absolutely adorable.
Madeleine's got 12 teeth. Four top, four bottom, four molars in various stages - one is up completely, the others are getting there slowly and painfully.
I use teething powder (ashton and parsons) and when it's really bad I use calpol.
We think Madeleine's extra special, and therefore needs extra maintenence at night! She's still sleeping like a newborn and shes 14 months. She sleeps from 7-11pm. Then wakes approx every two hours (sometimes three if I'm lucky) for a feed. She finally gets up properly around 8am.
oh dear that sucks hefalump!!!!
heartburn myth was true for me too...you have all seen freyjas hair lol. and my baby is 10 weeks today!!! she went to her first birthday party today, my friends baby turned one. and tommorrow...is happy conception day freyja lol. i cant believe its been a full year. makes me sad!

Well I had no heartburn and Oliver had very little hair, so it was true for me too. He's 6 months old tomorrow - it flies doesn't it, makes me sad too!
chloe's tummy is finally settling down, she's just always hungry on this milk.
we're using the milk for hugrier babies, yet she is wanting feeds at least an hour early and is wanting to keep sucking after the bottle is finished/ with on demand feeding i should be giving her the extra... but its more than is recommended and i dont want her to be fat like me

I had loads of heartburn and Madeleine had tonnes of hair.
Mandimoo - ask your health visitor they might have good advice on how much milk to give? I don't know about bottle feeding because I never did it. Doesn't bottle milk have more calories than breast milk so they don't need as much, hence they sleep at night better? Or am I making that up?

Is Chloe losing weight?
Maybe she's having a growth spurt?
Formula has a different consistency and different proteins (because it's cows milk) and so they take long to digest, hence fuller tummy, so they're meant to sleep longer. Calorifically, there's not much difference if i remember right, but it's "one" milk, where as with breastmilk you have the fore and the hind milk.
Milk guidelines are just that, guidelines. But talking to the health visitor is worth it. There are lots of bubbas that need a little more or a little less than what's recommended, you just have to be aware of what they're having and keep getting them weighed, that way you're aware if they're jumping up (or down) centiles.

Mandi, like Shona said they're just guidelines, if she's still hungry and wanting to be feed more, then up an oz on her bottle and she if that helps. Some babies need more then others.

I'd ask your health visitor if I were you mand. I'm guessing she's not putting on weight at a ridiculous rate, so probably keep feeding on demand. However my friends little boy was putting on weight very fast, and wanting feeding every hour (he was on hungry baby milk too) and the doctor actually recommended making him wait two hours between feeds.
But, like I said, if she's not piling weight on to excess, then she's probably fine.

Midwives may be important but they can also be illiterate, innumerate, incompetent, unfriendly, unhelpful, and triggering as ---k.
I have 22 weeks left to change my mind. Maybe I should move cities altogether. Can anyone suggest somewhere with nice midwives to move to?
(Sorry I'm so grumpy. I've had ANOTHER week of no food and loosing more weight and it does nothing at all for my mood. So much for things getting better with the 2nd trimester!)
