Adult education
Anyone done it?
I've just applied to do a creative photgraphy course. I got all excited abot it I went on and applied for a Maths course. I am sure I am numerically dyslexic and am dreading it but I felt I should do it as I have no GCSEs.
I have bad anxiety problems and thought of school (albeit an adult ed class) is makig me anxious and I got til September yet!
How can I over come this anxiety? I have yet to have my enrolement interview which is equally nerve wracking!
I have put on my form I have a MH illnes and may find it anxiety provoking. What else can i do to make it easier?
Any tips/ideas?
I'm not so nervous about photgraphy as it more a hobby. Maths is more like school thingy and brings back bad memories (I was beaten up/bullied in Maths classes, to point of not being able to turn up)

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

If the thought of doing the maths is too much then dont do it. Follow my therapists advice - do something you WANT to do, NOT what you OUGHT to do. I struggle with that one but I'm getting there
I do adult education and find it really fun. Ive done guitar lessons, sugar flowers, stained glass and bead weaving.

There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

You could always do Maths via a distance learning course...

I want to do maths, I think! I want a qualification that will be 'useful' in work applications. But I'm still unsure due to nerves. I shall see what they say when I go to the enrolement interview.
I don't know for sure if i am truely numerically dyslexic. I shall discuss that with them too.
As for doing something I want, that is the reason I am also doing Creative Photography. It is my hobby so I know I will enjoy it and learn more about technical stuff on my camera.
Distance learning... I need a tutor in arms lenth to motivate me. I can't see me doing anything at all if left to my own devices! Esp Maths!
Thank you all for your replies. Has helped :)

It is a cheap course at a local adult ed place. One of those charity type places. I love photgraphy too!

Good luck with whatever you decide - remember you should just choose to do whatever makes you feel most happy and comfortable.
If you do want to do maths, don't worry. The interview you mentioned is not really like a formal interview at all, it's just a chance for you to meet some teaching staff and discuss what you want to get out of studying. If you do go, it's a great chance to discuss your worries. FE teaching staff receive training in helping adult learners overcome any barriers to their learning (I know as I used to teach adult literacy). It would also be a good opportunity to mention your suspect you may be numerically dyslexic, your tutor may arrange for you to be tested, and they would definitely ensure you would receive extra help. They may even use some specific resources to make it easier for you. If you talk to them you should find them happy to help you as much as they can. Good luck, I really hope it works out and your happy xx
Ps I'm well jealous of you doing a photography course, I'd love to do it!
