I know BSL i start pre 3 in sep and level 3 in jan and i love it so much i also help teach it in introduction and level one.
personally i think it would be fine and a deaf teacher is always better then a hearing one because its here language but with a deaf teacher you don't get the history of the signs and things like that i would advise asking her for help and doing a ASL living history at college to get all back ground information and its quite cheap in England its about £100 for a 6- 8 week course.
Well i have never had a hearing teacher though i have hearing friends that sign and deaf friends. Go for it i love it so much I'm now on summer break and really missing it.
Hope that helps luv jad

Don't walk behine me I might got you lost!
Don't walk in front of me I may not follow you!
Don't walk beside me the path is to small!
All we can do is walk our own paths, remember your not alone because we are all walking our own paths together!

Where are you doing the online lessons?
|
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

I would be careful about on line lessons because say you live in the north and the online signs are from the south then the signs are going to be different from the ones where you live thats my only concern luv jad

The online lessons, seem helpful. My neighbor seems to understand what I'm saying, and I figure there may be different conventions to it in different areas, but, it seems to be working.
The ASL lessons are at www.lifeprint.com

Thanks, I'll have to check it out, it looks awesome.
As for dialect problems with ASL, from what I understand the biggest problem comes from the names of local foods, places, events and the like which are technically supposed to be fingerspelled but are often given local signs.

Wow, I've been poking around and this is awesome the way it's organized makes so much more sense then my initial in person ASL class did.
It's too bad he doesn't have more videos up, but this website has a pretty good ASL video dictionary.

about four or five years ago when i first joined ryl i started talking to this girl from australia on msn, and we became really good friends.
and then after we'd been friends for like a year, i said to her randomly if she looked some band or something, and then she told me she was deaf and therefore obviously couldn't listen to music.
..that was awkward.

Sign language is fuuun.
Shame I don't know any deaf people to use it regular with.
I have my Level 1 BSL and i'll hopefully start my level 2 this year.
:)
As for your question, just ask. Do they mind teaching you and how much would they charge?
