Lots of businesses and people are switching off their lights tonight at 9pm for an hour to raise awareness. Including Buckingham palace, St Pauls cathedral and even the large advertising boards in piccadilly circus will be switched off.

If you're scared of the dark, just turn out all unnecessary lights - you need not turn out every single light, just all of the ones which you don't NEED on.
From what I understand they wanted to do all of Britain tonight but the people in charge said no, something to do with a power surge when everyone switched their lights back on at the same time.

It's not a new thing, it's been done in different places before. Sydney did it a while ago... I think they want it to spread so lots of different cities/towns/communities will do it too.
Who said everyone would switch back on though? Timed areas could work and look rather cool! Children & OAP's will be asleep or going to bed, so it wouldn't be such a huge surge. I usually switch off at around eight and use the TV as a light for the rest of the room.
I was in London at 9pm and noticed o difference. When I got home my flat mate left two lights on in my house and she wasn't there. I guess we weren't joining in.
the bit that got me was the news programs setting up the cameras eating up power so they could put this power saving revalution on the news to say look theres no lights we filmed it :-s
