Question for people who've done psychology

I'm really confused at the moment about what I want to study and do with my life... when I was in secundary school I always said I'd do psychology but then I set asside that idea after being IP 3 times and loads of therapy (I was just fed up with everything related to problems)

Now I've done 2 other courses already (more management, communication) but I had to stop the last (due to IP) and now it made me think about my choices for next year... if I want to go that way or if I want to help people. And I think I would rather make a difference for someone but I'm scared that doing psychology will be to demanding for me.

So any experience from people who have done this, did you find it very confronting (especially the internships?) or any other helpful information is welcome! :)

I read somewhere... how important it is in life
not necessarily to be strong...
but to feel strong.

I have only studied psychology up to bsc level at uni and have had no work experience of it. I did find some of the lectures a little disturbing because it was as if they were talking about me but other than that it as fine. The workload is much tougher than school or college so you'd have to make sure that you were in the right state of mind to be studying, whatever subject you choose.

Perhaps you could talk to a careers advisor or your therapist?

Hope things go well for you. Take care.

I did it as well at uni and really enjoyed it.

To be honest the placements were at points triggering and you are going to need internal resources to be able to cope with it and seperate it from you and what you have gone through. At times the lectures will be very personal and again you will have to have the inner strength to sit through a lecture and not get triggered.

But I loved studying it and despite the above very little of my course was specifically related to mental illness so maybe when researching the courses you can look at the module content and go from there

I am currently doing some psych papers at uni (its not my major though) and I do find it difficult sometimes having to talk about things that I can relate to myself. Having said that, it's so interesting, and also wide ranging, a lot is to do with the actual anatomy and physiology of the brain, and also child development, perception etc so in my course at least it's not all about difficult stuff. I like it :)
