It depends on your sense of humour, as to whether you find what he character comes out with as funny. Remember too, this programme IS aimed at a wide range of people, including younger children than ourselves.
I wouldn't say it's the best series yet, personally.
at least she doesn't fancy the doctor. that got annoying.
i think i feel its the best yet because there hasn't really been any dodgey episodes yet, 1 was good but it was finding its feet really, 2 was brilliant but there were a couple of weird episodes like the peter kay one, 3 was hit and miss for the first half but this one hasn't really let me down yet. and with the steve moffat eps coming up and davros and rose coming back it sounds like its going to be immense.

That had nothing to do with Tate's acting, that was all from the writer :/ So blame him.
And anyway, I thought it was funny, it reminded us that Donna is a bit ditsy at times, which she hasn't been much this series but she was a lot in her Christmas special.
Yeahh children probably liked that bit and I think Tate/Donna brings her ditzy humour in to break the 'tension' a little :P

Eccentric hero Dr Who defeats the evil scary aliens.
Now it's eccentric hero Dr Who and comedian side-kick together defeat unscary evil aliens.
It's not the same.
I would of have much preferred Kylie, and unlike Tate can actually ACT, despite being a musician.
But.. to be fair, doctor who can't really be that scary if it's shown at 7pm, y'know?
It's great to have some humour in it.. it's British, it's a laugh.
Kylie was fantastic, but it's important to have some different characters. Each to their own, I think Tate can act. Yes, her own show was repetitive and somewhat crude, but she did pull off many characters and if she couldn't act, she wouldnt've been cast.
Edit: you say 'eccentric hero' like it's a bad thing. that's what the Doctor is.. he saves the world.

i think its quite refreshing, pretty much the formula for dr who since forever has been eccentric doctor and female assistant who screams a lot defeat evil aliens. tate has balls and yeah the monsters haven't exactly been terrifying this season i just think they've been great little stories so far.

But Tate CAN act. You obviously have no idea about what you're talking about if you can't see that. Of course she's not the best but she's a lot better than a lot of other people on TV.
Donna is funny at times and she's not in love with the doctor, that's why I love her. She's not some young thing running about like a headless chicken, she's older than most of his sidekicks, she knows who she is and she can stand up for herself, she challenges the doctor about some of his views, I think she grounds him a little bit too.
You can hate on Tate as much as you like but she is a good actress and Donna is a bloomin' good character to play.
I think the Classic dr who monsters were scary because people were easier to scare back then. It's almost impossible to scare poeple with TV these days. But still, a few episodes stand out as scary in the new series, Blink for one, in series 1 the 'Are you my mummy' thing, and the ghost in that theatre as well. I;'m not explaining this very well because I don't know the names of the episodes but there we go.
yeah i really dig that she doesn't have the hots for the doctor. it was tolerable with rose but it just got boring with martha.
i hate to draw parallels with the 'classic' series and the new one, as they are miles apart, but even the old stuff wasn't just about scaring. being the geek i am i can think of loads of stories without anything particularly scary in them. there was pretty much a whole season of the master just being a total dickhead to the doctor. however there were some 'monster' seasons where you had daleks, cybermen, zygons, and giant robots all over the place.
i think my point is there are many sides to dr who and i'm really appreciating this new series.
if you think massive bees are bad check out the ogri from the stones of blood. they are pretty much just stones that move really really slowly.
