Triggering (SI) - tapping

i have started with a new councellor about a month ago and she has introduced me to a therapy technique called tapping. it is quite bizzarre really. what happens is we make up a sentance which starts with a negative (eg even though i have to cut myself everyday) followed by a positive which may not be how u feel (i know that im a wonderful person) and then you have to find a delicate spot on your chest and say the words slowly. then i shut my eyes and my councillor takes over tapping maridian points on my face and on my hands. then you do some eye excercises (following the circle she draws with her fingers) and some random humming and counting. all the time she is repeating the lines but adjusting them to say my feelings. there is lots of breathing excercises involved as well. its very strange and i was wondering of anyone else has had this kind of therapy and how it worked for them??? it makes me very emotional and helps me to talk about different elements of my cutting. just wondering if this is common.... xx

If its gonna happen, its bound to happen to me

I've never even heard of this done before, but it sounds rather interesting.

If it helps you, that's what matters. Talking about things is really helpful most of the time.

Hey my psychologist did that with me too!

I got really emotional too. i always got really upset and foud it really draining i only had a few sessions but found it helped a bit with the things we worked on. It does feel really strange at first. i felt a bit self conscious but it did help. he just kept going over the same sentance still i stopped being upset about it.

good luck!!! Keep going with it and i really hope it helps!!!

Take care xxx
