Lovely Chat Goers, and those that don't use Chat but might sometime in the future...
Quite a few times in the past week alone the Chat Moderators have been alerted to instances where members are talking about triggering matters in a purely General room. There are four rooms where people are able to talk about triggering matters, two solely for support and serious issues and two for a mixture between general and supportive conversation.
The General only chat rooms are there for those people that would like to be distracted and have a general conversation but do not feel like being involved in or reading a serious or triggering conversation.
We know that Chat isn't near perfect, especially with the room usages, but it is something that the Chat Moderators are working on. But, without the members assisting us and abiding by the room descriptions and Chat rules, it isn't something that will be easy to fix.
You can find the room descriptions in each room or in the thread '
Chat - Room Descriptions' wrote by our lovely Zeitgeist.
The rooms are divided up in the following way:
General Rooms - The general rooms are
General Chit-Chat and
The Lounge. Both of these rooms are to be
100% free from triggering talk. People use these rooms because they're looking for someone to chat with but to be away from serious issues that they don't feel they can or want to handle at the moment.
Mixed Rooms - The two mixed rooms are
The Coffee Shop and the
Orange Room. These rooms are where you can talk about issues that you want support on/things that are bothering you, and you can also talk generally.
Support/Serious Rooms - These two rooms are
The Comfy Couch and
Serious Chat. Both of these rooms should be
100% free from general discussions and are there solely for people seeking or wanting to give support.
We have provided you all with these three types of rooms so if you're not feeling one you have options.
As we're aware, though, someone seeking support might only see people in a General Room. If you're looking for support, you are more than welcome to ask if anyone would mind moving to a mixed/support room with you or if anyone would mind PMing with you so you can talk.
Don't forget that you also have the option of using the
Forums if you're in need of support.
There is also the Supporters, who can be reached at
support@recoveryourlife.com or by the Live Help button at the top left of your screen.
This is not just something we're expecting our members to work on, but us Chat Moderators are going to work on this ourselves. We have found ourselves, at some points, misusing the rooms, and want to get ourselves, and all of you, into the habit of using them for what they're intended.
And, don't forget the rules. :)
