Has RYL been there for you when you've needed it? Are you interested in giving something back? Are you eager to do more to help RYL? Are you pro-active, dedicated person?
If the answer is yes, read on - here's how to do just that.
For nearly two years now, RYL has had in place a team of dedicated members providing support for other members via a live help and e-mail system. As RYL and it's membership grows and develops, the busier the system gets and now, after the move to V3, we're looking to expand that team.
So, why should you become a member?
Becoming a member of the support department is a great way to develop yourself as a person - if you're already someone who finds it easy to listen, understand and relate, then supporting on RYL in your own time is a brilliant way to fertilise and enrich both yourself and your skills. Not only that, but it gives you the chance to give back to a community that helps hundreds upon hundreds of people deal with their self-harm.
So, if you're organised, focused, committed and positive about working for RYL - get in touch!
hey Belle ...
First of all hope you are better now ,as i'm seeing you are currently ill..
I would be very pleased to help the RYL develop But i don't think i can be part of the team ,I'm not positive at all ,in fact i'm the most negative person on earth ! I like to help people on the forum with others who post ...
Part of helping people is to be honest with myself ...and i'm that kind pf person who is most likely unwell and down,
Anyways ,thanks for posting
Wish you all the best

True Colours - if you want to, why not apply? The worst that can happen is that it is decided that you aren't quite right at this time - you won't know unless you apply :)
xo
I've been a Supporter for well over a year.. maybe a year and a half? When I joined the team I was rather pessimistic [I feel that I can identify with you, 3 inches from the edge], but I loved to help people - it gave me a purpose when I had nothing else to live for. Recently I've taken a hiatus to straighten out some complications in my life, but even during my absence I know I'm still part of the team.
It's such a wonderful atmosphere - working alongside other people who sacrifice theirselves for others' benefit. And.. when you know you've made a difference, that's one of the greatest feelings I've ever experienced.
If this is something you'd like to do, I strongly urge you to apply. There will be times when you feel inadequate, but if you're chosen it's for a very good reason, and the doubts you have in yourself are nothing more than doubts.
And honestly, at times it may be stressful, and if you're dealing with a lot in your life right now.. it can go either way. Supporting can be a distraction/coping method, or it can be additional pressure. But still - if this is something you want to do, Miss Belle's inbox is always open, and we would love to have you on our team, even if you don't feel like you're deserving.
You're more than you think you are. You can make a difference, and while doing so, there's a great chance that you can also improve who you are.
It would be defo a distraction for me and I get a great sence of satisafaction from helping. I have PMed you Belle. (Y) *crosses fingers*

I wouldnt mind, ive got the experience (moderator on two other self harm/injury sites and a mod on a general forum) but i havent been here anywhere near long enough for everyone to trust me and whatnot.
Hopefully there'll be more needed down the track somewhere and i'll try then ^__^
Don't sign up for this, Harley will have you running in giant hamster wheels to keep the servers running.
On a serious note though, volunteering is great if you have the time and patience to devote to it. It's hard, stressful and downright annoying at times but it's very rewarding.
