it's just cause we're cool.

I don't know, are dating website popular these days? They seem more "socially acceptable", I guess a lot more things are done online now, including more social networking, such as facebook and myspace.

personally i have never used one but i know a couple folk that do, without any problems, i dont think its creepy or full of sleazes either, you get them in all walks of life, but for everyone saying go to a pub club etc, not everyone has the confidence to "go out on the pull" i know i dont, and again, i havent used a dating site yet but if i wanted to i certainly would give it a try,

The moderators at this site seem to dislike the idea of RYL being used as a dating site.

I don't think RYL is a dating site and definately shouldn't be used as one. But if you meet someone on here and hit it off then i don't think there's anything wrong with that. And i think i think it was said in a joking way anyway.

Hey ya,
I think the moderators have a responsibility to keep the forum ticking over in a manner in which ensures the protection of all members and ultimately the integrity of the forum itself. Although this is a support forum where the likelihood of a close bond with members is inevitable, that isn't the same thing as a dating site and that shouldn't be encouraged. People come here for help and advice, and I think if the forum is used as anything other, it leaves them in an even more vulnerable position. I'm sure you totally understand that :)
I hope this makes some sense and clarifies things :)
Take Care.

Yes we do indeed.
RYL is a predominantly a place to come for recovery, yes friends are made here and that's bound to become something more for some people, and that is wonderful. We have quite a few RYL couples and have had some marriages and even an RYL baby or two, all of that is fine if its circumstantial.
What we do not want is for RYL to become a place where dating is initiated. Imagine you were feeling desperate and didn't know what to do and then you found RYL and you felt it was finally the one place you felt you could talk...and then you saw they also did dating. To you that might not be a problem but it would make a lot of people uneasy.
Theres nothing wrong with online dating, it just has no place on a self harm recovery site, the atmosphere is wrong and it creates an image that's just not appropriate for this type of site.

I have no idea how to meet people either. I'm recovering from my physical disability and would like to get out there to meet people. I also think i'd rather be with a girl than a guy, which causes more problems. How do you tell if someone feels the same way?
I'd certainly gay it up in london with people as soon as im able to (if im invited that is).

Woop! RYL gays night out! I'm so up for that!
And Craola I completely understand and agree with you. I think it's ok if people get on and end up hooking up, but it's not really appropriate to use RYL specifically for dating.
