I don't know about the religious type of angels at the moment. I probably did when I was Christian but I have a serious lack of faith in anything at the moment.

Anyway the point I was trying to make was that there are some people in this world who act like angels. Truely good people that don't complain, are selfless and always save you. They may fall occasionally but they are wonderful people. :)

You're a star the way you are
You know you're not fooling anyone, no
You got the eyes of an angel
Don't try to change, yeah
Everybody's got their scars
Nevermind how ugly they are
No matter what they tell you
You're beautiful the way you are
"You shouldn't have to pay for your love with your bones and your flesh"

Absolutely, I think that is a really lovely thing to say, we ought to recognise and acknowledge those who really try to make the difference in our lives.

People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
But people will never forget how you made them feel

I would also add that most accounts of people who claim to have seen angels tend to be people in a state of ill mental health or heavily medicated.
I'm not convinced by the accuracy of this statement, but I'd be interested in your sources. The Alister Hardy Research Centre has found that most cases of 'religious experiences' (which would of course include experiences of angels and such things) tend to be exerienced by people who are well-educated, mentally well-balanced and healthy, and happy. Just saying =]

I wouldn't go by research off hand. Psychological research is more of a sham every day and often driven by money or politics. The best example was the "new disorder" called "Intermittent Explosive Disorder" said to affect up to 16 million Americans. Basically the made a disorder out of road rage when people lose their tempers.

"The findings show the little-studied disorder is much more common than previously thought, said lead author Ronald Kessler, a health care policy professor at Harvard Medical School."

Of course they have "medication" for this

"People think it’s bad behavior and that you just need an attitude adjustment, but what they don’t know ... is that there’s a biology and cognitive science to this,” said Dr. Emil Coccaro, chairman of psychiatry at the University of Chicago’s medical school."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13152708/

When they say there is a "biology" to this, they also mean there is a pill for it - and they would like very much to get us all on it. Drug companies pay most universities to do these studies if you didn't know (the Gov will pay too sometimes - and the people who work for them are from the schools and drug companies as well - its like musical chairs) .

Politically their is a "new atheism" movement in psychology where they want to make a disorder out of religious beliefs and also conservative politics. They also focus on "disgust" a lot and say that disgust people can feel for things are really not based on reason but on culturally based emotions - which btw they can correct if they can get to kids young enough (and brainwash them their way basically). Scince is starting to be abused not unlike eugenics was in the 40's so be very careful about any "studies" you read about these days.

Remember the polar bears it was said were dying? Tuned out 4 had died in a massive storm. But the 'scientists" figured that for the 4 bodies they found there must have been another 36 they didn't so their reports and "'studies" said "up to" 40 bears died. So they basically invent statistics based on what they call "finger prints of evidence" or evidence that isn't their but might be imagined as existing. It's crazy.

Not that a person couldn't see angels and devil and not be psychotic - it happens all the time. Also - hypnotically speaking concentration is a function of hypnosis and if people really want to see something they can. People even fall in love with people they see one way and in reality are another (and very thin gals can see "fat" in the mirror).

Why does this remind me of 1984?
George Orwell had something going when he wrote his books that depicted society as leading to dictatorship and brain-washing.
Is this kind of like how being gay used to be considered a "mental disorder" and shock treatments could cure it?

I do not want to know myself. I do not want to be myself. I know better, so I will strive to be better.

Honestly, i've never really thought about the concept of Angels... what does it mean?
I'm not religious though.
My beliefs tend to lie in the words and actions of people here on Earth.

I'd like to read some unbiased evidence on it but it seems pretty low on the ground especially now i no longer have access to scientific journals online. It is my personal belief that if you believe in things enough you will see them. I shared a house with a girl once who was convinced our washing machine was haunted because it occasionally made odd noises. As somebody who believed in ghosts etc she interpreted it as that. I as a more rationally thinking person interpreted it as the cooling after use which often results in a few creaks. Who was right? well we'll never know for sure but i'd bet on myself.
I think this kind of logic can be applied to all supernatural accounts. (i must state before everyone jumps down my throat that this is my opinion which according to most people on here i am entitled to have) As angels and demons are man made creations possibly representative of good and bad sides of human nature they do not in fact exist. There is no REAL evidence for their existence and until i see one for myself or see some credible evidence for them. I wont believe in them.
