Morals and Friendship
I was just in an uncomfortable situation about 15 minutes ago. I work at a call center and I got a follow up call from a person who didn't understand they were being charged 1 nt stay plus tax because they canceled their hotel reservation late. I looked at the history of the reservation to see who canceled it and saw it was my friend Jeka...
I began to worry that she hadn't explained to them properly that it was a late cancel and i felt like I either had to tell a supervisor my worry that she may have not informed the guest properly or talk with her myself. Because I like Jeka and don't like management I went and talked to her myself to clarify how exactally she informs the guest they will be charged when canceling late. She told me she does it the right way, but for some reason I have a feeling that a lot of the time she takes the easy way out and pretends they probably won't be charged when really they will be.
I don't know... I can understand how she'd want to avoid getting customers mad at her by being the one to tell them they are going to get charged 300+ dollars, but at the same time it is part of her job description. I did what she did for more than 6 monthes and I bit the bullet and explained the guest would likely get charged every time. What do you all think about this? Would you let a customer be charged without telling them because you wanted to avoid getting yelled at?

Oh...btw when I confronted Jeka in a nice way she got all defensive and upset I was implying she was making mistakes. I went over to her and kinda put my hand around her shoulder and gave her a half hug and said sorry and I hadn't meant to work her up, that I was just worried is all. I think she thought it was sweet of me to do that and probably forgot all about it. She does seem like the type that HATES to be told she's doing things wrong.

I work in a pharmacy and with a woman who tells people who call in that their medicine will be ready when they get there, but never fills it, or if it is something we need to call the doctor about she does not tell them that, and just says it will be ready later when really it might be a day or so before we hear from the doctor.
I get yelled at all the time by customers at my work, but I'm doing my job and doing what is in their best interests most of the time. I've had a few times when people will yell and scream at me in the store because I can't fix their insurance problem right then, or their doctor never called in a medicine...Then they go home and cool down and call the store to apologize for acting so horribly.

I work in a travel agency and luckily don't deal with the clients but I used to.
One client came into our office (people don't normally come in, its all phone based) and was moaning at my friend because there was a 61p credit card charge and she hadn't told him about it!! This guy flies 1st class every where and had his Jaguar parked outside! It got to the point where she got her purse out and said she would give him the 61p if he was that bothered by it. To which he replied it wasn't the amount it was just the fact he had been charged?!?
Telling customers about extra charges or that prices might change is quite an important part of the job in my book. I've seen alot of unhappy customers claim that weren't told if they didn't book a flight in a certain amount of time the price can go up, I know they were though as I heard the person say it!
Your customer has a right to be annoyed that they weren't told about it but could have checked with the hotel before checking out, however your friend is in the wrong if she didn't tell them. As you said it's part of her job, personally I dont have a problem telling people they might still be charged for that extra night. At the end of the day it's the hotel's policy so if they have a problem they need to sort it out with the hotel.
If ever I get shouted at on the phone I don't really listen, wait for them to be quite then calmly say 'I can understand why you are upset however I'm afraid there is nothing I can do about it as it is the hotels poilcy' then end the conversation as soon as possible!!
Sorry for such a long post!

I work in a supermarket.
If someone says "I'll just look around the back to see if we have anymore", 9 times out of ten, they will just go and stand in the back for a couple of minutes and tell you they don't have any.
Dicky!

I haven't started my job yet, but that sounds difficult.
I'd probably be the person doing something wrong though, to be honest. Heh.

Ride it out.
