Triggering (SI) - help! friend is copying me....
I've been cutting myself for 4 years and have managed to disguise it pretty well....
but then recently my sleeve accidently slipped up.....
and you could only see a few, very faint cuts..... my friend saw.
then today (couple of days later) i saw my friend cutting herself just openly in the classroom....
..... now is she copying me? as she DEFINITELY never did this before.....
if she is.... how do i explain to her that its NOT a trend or a fashion statement to cut self?
thank you!

As a little kid you believed in fairytales,
that fantasy of what your life would be: white dress; prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on a hill.
You closed your eyes and had complete and utter faith.
Eventually you grow up. One day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears.
But the thing is, it's hard to let go of that fairytale entirely because almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope, of faith,
that one day they will open their eyes and it will come true.

Im not sure if she is copying you, Maybe you could ask her about it say that you saw here cutting and see what she reply's with..
Maybe she has also been cutting for awhile but has never told anyone about it and when she saw your cuts she realised that you also cut and that her cutting in the open shows you that she cuts too without having to say anything...
Something simular happend to me when i was in school..
Sorry if its not good advice..

This is a hard question to answer. I strongly believe that people who SI for "attention" need real help to. Try not to be angry because she'll just get defensive. Approach the situation as though her SI is as genuine as yours. Tell her you saw and your conserned and offer to listen if she needs to talk. Do what you wish someone would do for you! And if it turns out she's doing it to be "cool" or fashionable or whatever...Then tell her how uncool it really is. Hope I helped some...

Can you talk to your friend in privet , explain to her how dangerous & addictive SI can be ?
Ask her why she did it , is it for attention or what ?
What i get from your post is that it's ur friend first time to SI , it's easier to quit it now than later .
Hope things will go fine x

That's kinda weird to do it in public I think...I don't really know how to approach that one. It would actually probably irritate me if I saw a friend do this, or a friend started because they found out I do. That's not good advice...haha.

thanks everyone!
to acensh: it DID irritate me SO much!!!! because loads of people at my school have absolutely no clue about SI AT ALL
so when they saw my friend their reactions just made me feel quite frustrated!
