I guess it has to do with the number or sizes...I don't know what they consider "bad" these days. Mine are small as well mainly cause I haven't cut in a while. I scared my self pretty bad cause over time I started to go deeper and deeper....So if and when I do they are nothing but scratches...they scar but they don't look like I myself have done them. Not to mention everyone holds a different opinion...I don't want to know how other see me...I don't even like how I myself see me

I never saw any one self harm scars in the flesh so to speak until about a year ago.
I thought what i had been doing was pretty tame and that i didnt have that many, but then i saw hers and i was like.. ****... do i self harm quite badly then?
people who dont self harm are always shocked when they see my scars, but i guess its cos regardless of depth and width, most people arent covered in that amount of scars.

To the OP... dont worry about how bad you think your self harm has got.. everyone is different and everyones pain levels are different, just worry about you and making yourself feel better.

I'm really sorry if implied that people without many scars are not 'real' sel-harmers- this is not an opinion i hold. If someone is hurting themselves, however they do it and to whatever extent, they are feeling a lot of emotional pain and they deserve to get help.
I also don't feel i have 'competition' with other SIers. Seeing this girl's scars didnt make me think 'haha i've got more scars than you i'm obviously a better self-harmer'. It actually really upset me because it makes me feel bad that she has to do that to herself as she is such a lovely person.
I'm not entirely sure what i wanted out of this post, i think it was just reassurance that i'm going to be ok really because the experience really frightened me, seeing how out of control i've got without noticing. However, a couple of days on i think seeing her scars has jolted me back to reality in a strange way and made me realise that i've really got to start trying to recover.
I'm sorry if i offended anyone in anyway. I honestly did not intend to.

The size/depth etc. is no reflection of how much someone is hurting inside. However, i have found that many professionals will think it is, or will take more notice if you if the sh is 'worse'. The first time i was admitted to hospital i had been self harming for a couple of years and the cuts weren't very deep, while i was in hospital i saw others who self harmed a lot deeper and even had some professionals say to me that i wasn't that bad (translation to me: not worthy of their time) and by the time i left hospital it was much more severe (how twisted is that??) i spent the next couple of years in a&e getting stitches at least twice a week. It was horrendous and i never wasnt to go back there. It's so not worth it, please don't ever think your sh isn't 'bad enough' there is no such thing.
