New type of self harm for me.

Hello. I've struggled with self harm now for around 10 years. And for around 2 years I thought I'd stopped (I used to cut) but it wasn't until recently that I noticed that I'd simply changed how I did it. And I'm not really sure what I can do to help myself with this one. When I'm upset I will hit my head against walls, or hit myself in the head, or even punch walls (I needed an xray once because I was in so much pain I thought I'd broken something)

Basically I've gotten used to coping with the urges to cut, but this... I'm not sure how to help myself to stop doing this. I dont even fully realise at the time that I'm doing it.

Any advice would be appreciated

Do you think you could speak to someone about it? Is there anything that stopped you from cutting that will help with stopping this?

I cant really pin point what helped me stop cutting. I think it was a mixture of a few things. I'm probably gunna try speaking to my girlfriend about it and seeing if she has any recommendations (she has a degree in psychology and may know some things I could do)

And as for speaking to someone, I assume you mean like a professional? Cause the mental health system in my area is so messed up. There's a place I can go to for short term counselling but I've been to them 3 times now, and I need something more long term (with them you only get around 12 sessions) but I'm struggling to get anywhere with that. I've been trying to chase up a diagnosis for around 2 years now (its been suspected for a while that I'm borderline, an old psychiatrist suspected but I was too young to be diagnosed) and I'm getting no where.

I'm sorry mental health system is messed up. Speaking to your girlfriend is a good idea. I hope she can help.

Keep posting here and searching the forums too. You might find people who can relate and have had good advice.

I'm going to start posting on here more. I used to be very active when I was younger, and I remembered it helped a fair bit, so considering I'm struggling again but with new issues I'm hoping it can help again.
